Has anyone ripped off their NB/SB heatsinks before? For example my Asus P5E WS Evolution http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131300 has Mosfets,NB,SB all connnected under the same heatsink with a giant heatpipe. I haven't tried to take it off for myself yet but has anyone taken one of these off before? And if what kind of thermal material was it? Thermal sticker or paste?

I plan on removing all of them and installing TEC's to cool them down. But before I do all of that I need to make sure that if I do take it off I can put it back if I need for some reason.

Thanks

I've never done it on that particular board, but I've done it on many boards.

They're either held on with push-pins or screws, just un-do them, use a cleaner to get rid of the crappy thermal paste (generally pink thick stuff) and reapply some new stuff, preferably something ceramic-based. Pop the heatsinks back on and you're away :)

I have on my asus board. The mosfets had a thermal pad(rubberish) while the NB/SB were glued on with thermal epoxy(adhesive?). Whatever it was made it hard to take the NB/SB heatsink off, and it made it very hard to clean up the thermal stuff that was left behind . Be careful with the heatpipes though since they are very easy to bend.

Yeah I was worried that if the whole heatsink is glued I could snap the heatpipe and that would be a bigger problem because my motherboard isn't fully waterproof yet.
