I need to grab a lappy for my wife. Just your basic lappy. Only requirements are at least a 14" screen, Win 7 and at 2GB+ ram. I'm not a lappy guy in general, so I'm looking for suggestions from those who know laptops better than I. Thanks in advance.

400$ is a tough budget to work with, however I've heard that the cheaper tablets (like the ipad but with better parts and Windows) will be around the 400~500$ mark

I recommend trying the refurb market, lowmarkup.com have great deals if you look around enough. A quick look showed this

I think it is a nice deal.

I can vouch for them. If you end up buying from them, let me know before you do, I may be able to get a discount on a comp I want to buy from them xD

This is the one I want: http://www.lowmarkup.com/HP-EliteBo...-Years-Warranty-XT956UT#ABA/product_info.html

EDIT: Now that I see shipping is so high, I may be able to negotiate with the owner as I know him a bit

How about a WTB thread in the BST section? (unless it has to be a new one)

I'll have to take a look. I'm not wanting a netbook or a tablet though, it has to be a lappy.

Edit: Prices seem consistent with other etailers.

I was thinking of just that. I kind of want the security of warranty though. Maybe I'll try my luck anyway.

Interested in a used HP G62-144DX? It's a 15.6 lappy with an i3, 500gb 7200rpm hard drive, and 4gb of RAM. That would definitely be under your $400 budget.

This is the one I just bought directly through Dell. With coupon code it was $309 with free shipping. Thought it was a really good deal for the specs, and comes with a 1 year warranty through Dell.

Recertified: DELL Inspiron 1545 NoteBook Intel Pen...

If I saw this earlier, I would have considered it for sure.

    Acer AMD Fusion?

These e350 laptops are plenty fast for normal activities, and easily support hardware accelerating 1080p out the HDMI ports. Good for some light gaming too (seems to even handle Doom III pretty well). The model mentioned earlier has the slower c50 APU, plus no tax at Amazon!
