The new NFS will be shown for the first time today during an internal meeting of Electronic Arts.

I love Shift, but back to running from cops will be a welcome return to the NFS norm.

    FAKE.

Read this: (taken from: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=231151 )

UPDATE: Criterion's confirmed via Twitter that these are fake. "NFS stories on the net today - 100% FAKE," it says.

ORIGINAL STORY: The first concept art images for Burnout developer Criterion's Need for Speed game have seemingly leaked onto the internet.

The images, which include the title 'Need for Speed: Out of the Law', show police chases, brightly-coloured motors and yes, motorbikes.

EA's said gamers should be excited for the new instalment because "that Burnout team is probably one of the more online-centric and notably high-quality game developers that we have".

From the screen looks more like Most Wanted 3..or something...

    @EA:

Hello! Anybody there??? We need some weather in your games, and also races during the nigh, day or dawn! And less arcade $hit!

I want the mountain tracks from NFS3 back... City driving gets boring! I want a police chase down a mountain pass, now THAT would seriously rock!

I have to admit, Underground & Most Wanted were my favourites out of the NFS series.

But, how will they screw this one up? :(

+1 to NFSU2 and NFSMW being favs in the series. Despite this being fake, I'd love to see another Most Wanted. However, I felt the M3 GTR was crap.

Don't forget about NFS6: Hot pursuit 2, you can call a helicopter for bombardment.
I also would like to see they add mission like NFS5: porsche 2000 when you become the test driver.

You know..they could stop churning out these uninspiring games and just give us one with all of the best game styles included.

I.e. Original NFS was great for open road cruising/cross-country etc; then there's the police evasion aspect, followed by some inner city driving(possibly open world city?) and then the official GP type tracks.

Just think NFS 1 meets NFS Porsche meets NFS Most Wanted meets NFS Underground meets NFS Shift.

But I have a feeling if they did that it would either be underwhelming and very shallow, or they'd think they'd be putting all their eggs in one basket.

Though on the latter bit, we're kinda past that point aren't we? How long has the series been going?
