Need help installing Vista 64!

Hey all, I've decided to install Vista 64. I have been unsuccessful for the past 2 days. Half the time the DVD won't even boot(Brand new DVD). I have a 32-Bit DVD that I tried and its the same way. When ever it does boot, I get missing files when Windows tries to start. It will finish(And take a long time), then when it restarts it says xxxx.dll file is missing, its different everytime. I've tried using my flash drive as well, and I get missing files(for 32-Bit too), and now my Windows 7 DVD won't boot or anything. I've flashed my bios, and used all default settings...nothing is working. What can I do to get it installed? Is there another way to use my flash drive?(I used xcopy command). Thanks,

Thats got to be hardware if its happening across multiple formats to my mind. The copy I "downloaded" just works... Have you tried switching SATA ports or a different drive? Its well past Halloween so that can't be it, LOL

I have no other DVD drives in the house...I'm using an old DVD reader(White, and doesn't burn). The drive has never let me down until now, I'm wondering if it will work in another computer... But I get the same issue using a flash drive.

Sounds to me like the DVD is croaking. Mine was having issues just like this when it was on it's way out. Same problem, but with XP, then it moved on to Crysis, then it finally died an honorable death.

Sounds like a drive tbh. I have had simaler issues. I had used a cheap dvd drive and didnt' work tried another worked fine.

This worked for me for installing XP with a flash drive, but I can't promise anything with Vista. Says it's tested and works though.

Word of warning; it took me nearly 4 hours to install XP with my crappy flashy. YMMV.

The problem with using the flash drive, is that if you are using the DVD drive to copy the files to the flash drive, and the DVD drive is failing, then chances are the files on the flash drive are corrupt.

You best bet would be to try and get a DVD drive out of another machine just to test.

Take out our other memory stick and try then. I couldn't install with 4GB, 2GB was fine.

So what if I used an image file?(Btw, I used xcopy from my laptop which has a good DVD drive)

I was having the same issue, had to get a brand new disc, it was corrupt, but worked fine after that.

Finally got it. The USB trick didn't work, but after about a thousand tries with the DVD drive it worked

. It's smooth this time around, maybe it never liked my old P5K-E..

Actually I've tried that winsetupfromusb, and love it! I used it to install xp64 on my server and cut like half the install time down. I'll probably use it from now on. Much faster than from cd or dvd. (Get an ozc rally2 4gig for 20bucks or less jeez)

I used it with my 4GB Cruzer Micro, and it would always come up with missing files.. Maybe it works better with XP.

Works with xp64, which is not xp, just fine. Vista, well, I can't wait for win7 final.

Yea, I was on 7 prior to this. It was awesome! I had to come to Vista due to some programs not working, and it had some troubles with my Tascam

On the P5K-Pro Vista install was terrible crashing / missing files etc. Although the raid/sata controller was detected, it wouldn't install before selecting the drivers from the mobo disk
