i currently have an overclocked GTS 250 512mb.

i want to upgrade it to either a gtx 260, ATI 5770 or ATI 5830. but i dont know which one.

I am still saving enough money to buy one.

in here where i live things are expensive.

so a gtx 260 costs me $304. ATI 5770 is $270 atleast and ATI 5830 is $424.

the new gen of nvidia cards are very expenive. cant afford them.

ati 5770 can be weak at some games. it can be slowe than both 260 and 4870. and it has only 128 bit bus.

and for 260, it can be overclocked to match the performance of a 275 or even a 280. but when i looked at new games benchmarks like metro 2033 and Splinter cell convition, i saw that 260 is very low on fps and ati cards even 5770 is faster than 275 and 260.

so ati 5830 cought my eyes. since it can be overclocked and be as fast as a 5850. but its expensive. but i think i can save up to $424 till 2 or 3 more weeks.

but do u think its worth the money?

should i buy 260 and overclock it or save up for 5830?????

and im looking to play all my games at 1600*1200 res with 4xaa and no AF on very high settings. AF is not important to me.

The 5770 with the newer drivers are as fast as the GTX 260 and the 4870.
BTW, the 5830 only have half the ROPs, so it have a hard time catching up with the 5850.
Just grab the 5770 and save yourself some cash and power bill.

man, a cheapest ati 5850 will cost me $508 NZD. lol. too expensive.

i can save up, but it will take me ages to save up that much. and i cant wait too much.

a 5830 will be $428. but a 5770 will cost me much lower. only $270. a geforce 275 is $450

and gtx 260 is $304.

so how about buying a good GTX 260 card? and overclock it to be close to 280 or 5830 level of performance?

because some brands of gtx 260 can oveclock very high, as high as 700mhz core and memory bandwidth can go as high as 150 GB/sec. i saw it on a benchmark.

so about a good GTX 260 brand???? it will be $304

IMO, not worth the bother to jump from a heavily stable clocked GTS250. Not enough percentage of increase to warrant the money. I say go at least 5850 or nothing at all.

+1, No point upgrading to a card which provides less than 10% improvement. Save your money to 5850, by that time it will be somewhat cheaper.

so even if i buy a 5770, since it can be slower than a 260, the difference between my gts20 will be even smaller....

but 260 can be overclocked much higher than 5770 and also better drivers and game support and physix.

maybe i should just wait and see. but a 5850 is way too expensive for me.

Think of a 5850 like a slow 5870.
Once overclocked you can easily surpass a stock 5870.

In my opinion 5770 is not a worthy upgrade.

Edit: Whos cares about Physx????

mosheen: then how about a 260 gtx and overclock it to the limits that can match a 275 or 280?

and 280 is faster than 5830.

but all in all, i just want to know why nvidia cards have low fps with Splinter cell conviction and metro 2033 while ati cards have better fps??

is it becase those titles are ATI friendly?

5830 is not a good card, and you will need a very good oc to reach 275 performance from a GTX260.

well im sure i can overclock it high.

and why is that? from many benchmarks, a 275 isnt very far away than a 260 anyway.

if i buy a 260, i will overclock it to the limits that will match or bypass the 280.

and i dont care about DX11. its just like dx10. all flash, no substance.

260 has more rops, more texture units, and can have more bandwidth than a 5830 when overclocked high.

i dont know about a used 4890. but its perfomance can match a highly overclocked 260.

so in that case, 260 would be better because of Nvidia physix.

It seems like you really prefer an Nvidia card rather then an ATi card. Im guessing you want PhysX, this would be my idea, either buy a HD5770 and use that GTS250 card as a dedicated PhysX card, assuming you have enough PCI E slots and know how to do that configuration, or just don't buy anything, I would rather you save up for a HD5850, but yeah like you said $508 NZD, thats pretty high, they are like $349 here in Auz:toast: thats about $427 NZD, do you think you could save up to $427:eek:

things are cheaper over there.

but why u dont want to get the gtx 260?

its still a high end card and can overclock well.

if i get over 30fps on avg in games im happy. i dont need 60 fps to play games.

and looks like a 260 can play all the new games on high settings well over 30fps if not 60fps. ???

i got a 5870 for ~$350 Au in the Buy/sell section of the forums here. you should go poke Darwin86, he sells some great cards cheap.

Dont get fooled by Nvidias hardware accelerated PhysX by the way... less than 10 games actually use it. its all marketing bullshit.

The 5830 is like the outcast child that we only wish was athletic and wasn't gay.
