Hello everyone, a while ago I attempted to overclock my video card using afterburner. But the issue was when I would overclock any game that I would play would crash within a few minutes, even if it was a small overclock such as 15mghz on both the core and memory.

I messed around with it for about a week then gave up but I would like to try it again. I did increase the voltage as well to see if that would help and increased the fan speed but that didnt help. I know temps arent an issue because my card idles at 30c and under full load it reaches around 55c. I also have looked at some tutorials but they werent much help either.

my card is a zotac gtx 570. any help or advice would be appreciated.

Not all cards overclock well, sometimes it is luck of the draw. Not everyone with the same gpu will achieve the same clock speeds.

Same with cpu.

Try reinstalling afterburner,it could be software, simple to eliminate as a problem, as are gpu drivers.

Did you alter voltages before you changed the clocks or did you manage any sort of o/c with no voltage change?

What sort of crash? BSOD?

I tried both with and without voltage bumps. and the games would just crash to desktop. and it would would do it with every game. but i could oc it pretty high and run msi combuster for an hour no issue.

you may be right, but I would like to try it again. I plan on upgrading to a better video card in the future but I was hoping to get some extra performance out of my 570 until then.

what would be the best way to apply voltage to the card? that was one issue i couldnt figure out.

Are you checking yout results with gpuz? The sensors tab.

I test by gaming not stress testing. I cant remember burning a card gaming on it but a couple have suffered irreparably through stress testing.

So...if you ran kombustor now for an hour it would be ok but if you game for an hour it will crash to desktop.
Try it with gpuz running.

I did use gpuz to check my video card when i was testing temps where fine, and when i would load a game it would crash 5 to 10 mins depending on the game with no errors.

and other than temps when using gpu z what else should I be checking? sorry I'm kind of a noob to overclocking. last card I oc'ed was a radeon 4890 and it died but the funny thing is I turned off the oc a few days before it died. I can't remember how high I had it oc'ed because it was almost 5 years ago lol.

do you oc both ram+core clocks at the same time?
every card should do 10 to 20 mhz whithout voltage plus on core.

Yea I oce'd both the ram and the core at the same time with small increments at at such as 5 to 10 mghz (small overclocks), results where the same. games would crash. I will look into some more when I get time. thanks for the help though. my card just may not like overclocking.
