I think if you read all my posts you will see that i have mentioned that it only happends with ARMA II on more then one occasion. If my PC was unstable would it not crash randomly while idle, doing everyday things like surfing the interwebs or during a 6-8hr BC2 or BF3 gaming marathon with BF3@Ultra settings?

your questions are all answered in my previous posts.

You need to take out that overclock to troubleshoot it, as I've said. A 2500K at 4.9 gigglehurtz is overclocked pretty hard and could well cause this. And yes, everything can work fine, but then fail in one or two scenarios only, like ARMA.

Remember, you're only troubleshooting here. If it doesn't resolve the problem, then feel free to put the overclock back. If it does resolve it, then that was your answer, wasn't it? Your mobo is likely to support profiles to make this easier, too.

Another reason why i think its a driver issue is because it only BSODs while loading into a server, the loading screen could be almost pitch black with nothing but the words 'recieving data....' then BSOD or autorestart.

thats the only time it happends and never right in the middle of the game where all the explosions and other stuff are going off. Its NEVER crashed in the middle of a ARMA II game, its only that loading screen that seems to perturb my pc. once im in a game, im in it till either the server crashes or i quit the game and manually shut the game down. which means it could be a ULPS issue.

Look, it doesn't change the fact that for troubleshooting you still need to remove that overclock, buddy. :toast: It can be the slightest, most apparently innocuous thing that trips it up. Just do it! :rockout:

then how do you explain that it starts working perfectly with no problems AFTER i manually disable crossfire in CCC?

I never get crashing after disabling crossfire

I don't have to explain anything and it's not even possible to. Overclocks cause random crashes and in the most unlikely of places, end of.

What's so damned hard in taking out for troubleshooting? :wtf: It's an obvious step and you must do it.

Agreed: just because you know the most likely cause of a problem doesn't mean it's the right one.

I'm sure you're probably aware of this but OCs degrade over time and what you could OC with X voltage could now take you X+whatever-next-value-is-on-your-board or even more. When was the last time you checked for stability? Just because it checked out last time does not mean it will now, you know.

Please note that you may be right all along but, because you don't do this, we can't be sure of it which is why we suggest you do this, if only to rule it out.

See if keeping ULPS and disabling the overclock also works. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if simply restoring ULPS still makes it work. These faults are frustrating like that, lol.

Hey, sorry for derailing, but FreedomEclipse, how you overclock with 11.12 or whatever it is now? I tried those drivers but then MSI Afterburner wouldn't work with it, so I had to go back to 11.5.

Pain in the ass. Who's overclocking with 11.12 with afterburner and how?

Thanks and good luck Freedom.

I havent overclocked my cards - I dont really need to, at most Id probably just use overdrive and push my GPU to 900 or 920mhz but thats about it.

most people overclocking use Racer X to push the CCC limits higher, then just go as high as you can till you hit your max stable. if you need better volts use afterburner for that alone.

Hi FreedomEclipse, I had suffered very similar problems to you but with different games. You shouldn't need to modify or disable anything. In order to resolve this issue can you try something for me as I believe this issue can be pin pointed. Judging from your knowledge of computers I would say you would be fine in running a virtual machine and installing just the same operating system, the very latest whql drivers and cap and then installing arma 2 and seeing if you get the identical error in the virtual machine for me please.

VT is supported in software on his CPU, but not hardware accelerated. Intel charges a assload for server CPU's that do that.

Virtubox may allow for it in some ways but it will not be the same as it brings its own issues to the table.

I can only say that for me personally ARMA II definitely pointed out to me at least that my OC was not stable and it gave me a few BSOD's(Granted this was months ago when I first built it)

Also there was a recent update for the the whole thing(ARMA II AO, the DLC's) I give BI credit for their continuing support at least.(I should really fire it up and have a look myself)

Could it be something in the latest update that may be throwing a wrench in the works? I mean I see you have found a possible solution but just throwing that out there.

Sorry absolutely right I was away in the clouds.

Let me rephrase it do exactly the same set up on another HDD or dual boot to see if you get the same effect.

Right, Just an update....

It seems that Disabling ULPS helped for a short period of time. however it started crashing again and I dropped my OC to 4Ghz and the BSODs in ARMA II still happened. It just happened about 4-5times in a row. once while i was in the game then the other times while i was trying to get back into the game.

So i decided to hop off teamspeak and do some stress testing first of all starting off with MSI Kombuster for the GPU's the cards have already passed 30mins at max stress and have not BSOD'd yet. After that Im gonna use prime95 to test my CPUs overclock just to see if thats stable. After 8 or more hours I will run memtest for a few hours just to make sure its not the ram thats faulty.

If my PC passes all the tests then the only thing i can think of that might or might not fix the issue is a fresh windows installation.

^ make sure you run a combination test, CPU and GPU at the same time as well.

meaning run Kombustor & Prime95 at the same time???

Its definitely seems to be a driver related issue. as every other game works just perfectly.

I have reason to suspect it might be a bad PSU though im not sure.....

i run OCCT linpack and furmark at the same time, but it shouldnt be any different. its all about maxing power and heat, because it may take the combined heat of CPU and GPU to trigger the fault - could cause an unrelated part like PSU, NB, VRM's or RAM to overheat, for example.

heat is not an issue - I have so much positive airflow in my case - my exhaust fans dump cold air - Even 3-4hrs on prime95 right now. my CPU hasnt gone over 60'c and the rad is not even warm.

I was think it was one of my 6970s over heating at first. but its being fed cold air directly from the side and from the fan on the side panel & front of the case as i removed the HDD cage that was blocking the 140mm fan.

the top 6970's temp still worries me. - It hit 94'c on Kombustor but it still managed to pass an hours stress and i fucked about with the powersaving a little e.g. starting the stress test then closing it down and letting the pc idle for a few mins before starting up again. simulating when ARMA II goes from blank 2D;ish loading screen into a 3D game.

the 6970s still have the stock coolers on so almost all the heat is dumped outside the case.

Im gonna work on fixing the heat issues. got an eye on 2 prolimatech MK-13's....they are expensive but I plan to have these 6970s for a good while so i should get my moneys worth i hope

what about the other stuff i named. just because the CPU is cold doesnt mean the rest is.
