Need suggestions for LCD monitor

was using a 460 GTX with 19" trinitron crt but have a 480 GTX coming soon and want to upgrade to a larger screen. Sony FW900 is out of the question these days (too hard to find and then, way too expensive for a older and therefore short life-span monitor) so I decided to switch to a LCD panel

Been looking at these two in particular; my price range is $250 max

Samsung PX2370 23" 1920 x 1080 res, 250 cd/m2, 2ms(GTG), 1000:1

SAMSUNG S24A350H ToC Rose Black 24" 1920 x 1080 res, 250 cd/m2, 2ms(GTG), 1000:1

any suggestions much appreciated ...

found mine on craigslist, got it for $25 but I had to remove the anti-glare film (was extremely easy to do) but less than a year later the well-known flyback/crt arc problem reared it's ugly head ( strikes after 7 years or more) but for what I paid, I consider myself blessed to have had such an awesome monitor for any length of time (no crt or LCD I have seen to date can touch it).

Maybe yours will last longer {8^D

I bought mine used last November. I haven't had any problems and as far as I can tell neither did the previous owner.

that's good. Just mentioned it for any who are considering such a monitor and might read this thread. No doubt there are many HP 7217's and Sony FW900's that run for many, many years.
It's taking a risk though, and those who are considering such CRTs need to consider things like this before making their choice

I hope some folks will post some advice here about LCD panels so I can order one in the next day or so. I enjoy reading reading all the specs and comments about different makes/models ut I'm getting burnt out now after a few days of researching. It's challenging to buy an LCD online without being able to see it work first. Also, it isn't cheap to send it back, regardless the reason.

what about this panel? 3,000:1 should make for some fine contrast and it has 5ms response - not to shabby for an ISP panel. If it wasn't set in such a gaudy frame

the pixel 'response time' is often exaggerated and contrast ratios are irrelevant.

- dot pitch
- actual pixel response
- input lag
- display controls
- black levels
- uniformity

Decided on the ASUS VW246H

ASUS VH242H = 1634 reviews

ASUS VW246H = 1302 reviews

seems to be in the same ballpark. Both have 1000:1 and 300 cd/m2 but the VW is 2ms and the VH is 5ms lag. Since the VW246H has zero lag @ 2ms (according to stopwatch testing side by side with a crt monitor) and is said to be excellent for hardcore gamers I 'll stick with it but thanks for doing all that research to help {8^D
