Please, the graphics card posts and boots up fine but it ends up with unusual vertical lines in varying colors after minimal use. I have been through XFX tech support and they haven't helped as they don't have the BIOS so I figured the only option left would be to come here by now. I'm not sure if it is just a wattage issue with the card though (I only have 430w PSU), as it seemingly runs fine even with this bios until the random lines occur...

The bios I flashed onto it by the way is the Sapphire one that is on the website for the R7 265 model. Please help, I don't want my 150 dollar graphics card to become a coaster!

Bump, just to see if anyone can comment. I figure at least one of you have this card, as I'm assuming thousands of these have been made...

why did you flash the bios from a different make of card ?
Not all Cards are the same
Each manufacture may use different mem / clock speeds + other Differences
Flashing the incorrect bios can brick your card
You Say
I have been through XFX tech support and they haven't helped as they don't have the BIOS

then what Bios Do they install on to their Cards
If they built it if they sold it
if its current invintory /stock then they got the Bios somewhere

Have you contacted @XFXSupport here

I don't know why I flashed that BIOS I didn't know what I was doing and I downloaded GPU-Z and it took me to a link that said "find bioses for your card" so I assumed it meant that it would find compatible ones with my card but it only gave me the Sapphire ones so I got confused. I haven't contacted @XFXSupport but the XFX support themselves said that they needed a card to be RMA'd to them in order to get a factory BIOS, which I admit is kind of dumb that they wouldn't have their own card on them. I don't know where they would have it.

Have you tried the vBios from an XFX7850, as they are basically the same card.

I'm not sure what would happen if I did that, as in if it would brick the card even more, but I could try. The thing still displays it just ends up showing me vertical lines in random colors at random times and I have to restart.

I tried that 7850 BIOS and it seems to not crash, but when I try to watch video or anything graphically related the lines show up. At least this one doesn't crash....

EDIT: Forgot to mention I contacted @XFXSupport. Hopefully things go smoothly.

we need to instigate a rule on tpu where if someone asks for a vbios after botching and flash and didn't make a backup we lock there thread and ban them =/
seriously it takes 5 seconds to make a backup with either gpu-z or atiflash ...
the gpu sub forum is flooded with threads like this one for this very reason
PEBKAC plain and simple ...

Google the thread title. He's bombed at least half a dozen other sites with this exact same thread too.

Nonetheless this is a problem and I was only looking on other forums for anyone who could possibly have the card. I don't see that as bombing. I know the fix was that simple, but honestly I don't see how it is that easy to simply make 150 dollars useless. There should be a solution if you don't make a backup, and so I figured at least someone would have a solution to this somewhere, rather than a bunch of scrutinization. It doesn't make me feel any better you guys pointing out my mistake when I already practically lost 150 dollars. I'm sure you guys would feel the same way in my situation.

Look, I'll be frank with you. There were red flags and warning signs EVERYWHERE advising you to NOT DO what you did. But you did it anyway. You broke the cardinal rule required to be a graphics card owner. Or, rather, the owner of a working graphics card. How can anybody feel sorry for you?

I don't know what else to say. I guess it's time they put a big sticker on every graphics card sold with bold letters stating "DO NOT attempt to flash the BIOS! BIOS flashing should ONLY be done by a trained professional!!!". Maybe then people would start taking it more seriously.

I guess thats why they have the 'void' stickers over the screws on graphic cards to stop people removing GPU coolers. Doesnt stop people tampering though but they might think twice if doing it voids their warranty

Actually theres a flaw with this. Even though the card might be exactly the same - part number and all but it could be a different revision and the bios's wouldnt be compatible.

I had this happen to me back in the day when i purchased a ATi 5850 then another further on down the road that was exactly the same model number but different revision

then it was not exactly the same card Rev 1.0 is not the same as Rev 1.1

It was the same card, same part number, same blue PCB, same stock cooler with the same sticker on the cooler, same specs & same product listing on the website i bought it from.

It doesnt help that some retailers omit any changes in revision when it comes to listing the products they have in stock. for some retailers, so long as the P/N is the same theres no need to edit the listing or make a separate listing for it.

Its bad business practice but it happens. I was honest when contacting the retailer explaining that i had bricked the card they just sent me assuming they were exactly the same and they were more than happy to take it back and replace it with another one.

If the retailer doesnt list the differences/changes in the product description then who are you to say that the products arent the same until you receive it? take them to court for false advertising?? Its not going to work.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay, I was on holiday with the family.

I'm working on getting the serial # number to grab the original bios.

As far as XFX is concerned, we very rarely make "updated" bios versions for our cards. As a rule, the original bios will always be the best bios, unless we have a known issue. Please contact myself or xfxsupport.com first before making any bios updates.

I have a handy system that only a select few in XFX have access to. The system can give me every detail of hardware spec, then i can submit for the original bios. Once it arrives, i can forward it to you as needed.

Thank you

Well based on what you are describing, it could be that he card is just unstable currently with the clock settings on the R7 265. You could open up MSI afterburner and bump the voltage up a bit to see if that helps or change the clocks to what your card came at and see what happens.

That's all I had to do... it worked! I don't know what to say, but thanks.

EDIT: Just wanted to add it isn't an exact fix. I still haven't been able to get the exact settings correct to keep this thing up and running, but at least it will play videos and game as usual.

It could be a mix of RAM instability and core instability which sometimes cannot be completely alleviated with voltage, you can try bumping back on the clocks by small increments to see if that helps and once you have it you can set MSI afterburner to use those settings on startup or adjust the setting in a VBIOS editor. This can all be temporary to until you get an original copy of the stock bios.

Edit: To add to a comment above, the R7 265 is a rebranded HD 7850. Look at the stock clocks your card came at and look for a bios for an XFX HD 7850 or R7 265 that matches and try that bios.
