when are these graphic card companies going to get away from the stupid dual slot video cards. I understand the cooling is better, but this is getting ridiculous.

The graphics card companies must love you. Here's what your statement said about you
:respect: --> AMD/Nvidia

So your point is that since the companies can't make chips that aren't mini space-heaters, it is okay for them just to screw over the consumer and waste a slot on the motherboard???

Sounds like broken logic to me. I can understand that it is so much cheaper for the companies to just design the cards as dual slot cards, but that is not how the motherboards are designed. Unless they start to add some more slots on the motherboard, then the graphics card companies need to come up with a better plan. What good is moving to a smaller manufacturing process if they aren't going to try and do something truly innovative???

They can make chips that aren't mini space heaters, but they won't be as fast, or as powerful as they are now. To do it now would probably leave you with something between a 3870 , and a 4850. If you want the latest and greatest, your going to have to lose that extra slot, or get water cooling.

Watercooling will do what exactly since the cards are designed with stacked DVI connections ?? :banghead::banghead:

Next time make sure you know what you are talking about before you post something so misleading.

Also, you pretty much made my point for me. If they make the chips as mini space heaters and throw a big cooler on there, yes I understand that is much cheaper. However, that is not real innovation. If the design is too powerful and requiring cards that are 13" long and take up two slots then the companies need to try and redesign the PCB and come up with some new tech to make the cards smaller and just as powerful. Hell I would even settle for a 5850 speed card that is a single slot and runs on less power than a 5770. The best of the best could still be dual slot if they required it, but even the mid-range cards are all dual slot video cards now and that is just stupid.

Geez no need to attack me I'm just offering ideas.

People always want the latest and greatest. If you want something as powerful as a 5850 that will only require a single slot solution your going to have to wait until the next generation, or possibly the one after that. If you want it now you'll have to deal with what technology can currently provide.

Technology is always advancing but if they could make something now as powerful as a 5850 that only needed a single slot cooler they would be selling stuff twice as powerful as the 5870 that would require a dual slot cooler.

Look at CPU's, at one time they didn't need a fan, and some today don't need fan's, but if you want top of the line quad cores, and not an Atom in your PC. You need a fan.

I myself prefer dual slot coolers, especially the ones that vent out the back of the case. It keeps overall temps down for the whole system. Even with dual slot cards crossfired, I have enough spare slots a wifi adapter, and a sound card.

The only 13" card right now is the 5970. :slap:
Guess what? You can replace that card's I/O plate and get yourself a single slot card by water cooling.

Btw, no one is stoping you from getting non-reference 5750s that have single slot I/O plates.

Sure they can design chips that are as powerful as 5850 and use less power than a 5770, but it won't be there before next Christmas :pimp:
Its is the foundries that are having differculties makes chips on more advance processes right now.

It has nothing to do with innovation, its call reality.
If you are so unhappy with this, go design your own chips and built your own fabs.

I foolishly just sold my 5850 to get a 5970, but can't get one!!! So I picked up 2x asus 5770s to have some grunt while I wait... They have these new coolers and are massively queter than the stock cooler on the 5850... That was the loudest cooler I've had to date.

Looks like an ASUS rep stated that the new cooler cools better and the new ASUS HD5770s are shipping with Samsung ram.

Bye bye batmobile for HD5770.

I was looking to get a 5770 and am interested in this develop. While many people are saying these new egg coolers are great, the fact still remains that there isn't any heatsink on the memory which may be a problem for overclockers? Am I totally off the mark here?

I do to, I ordered the V1 from Newegg and they sent me a V2. Totally different Model #. They then told me that my only real option for obtaining a V1 is from ASUS directly... so I shot ASUS off an e-mail and hope to get a reply back soon.

They're all reference with the company's sticker thrown on it. I went with the XFX purely for the warranty.

Which reminds me, is it Wednesday yet? I'm tired of waiting.....

Would you guys think it be V1? i mean if they gave me V2 then thats false advertising of product you should sue them or something for posting the incorrect picture of the product. xD
From what i read the 5770 i just linked is a VTX3D brand:

The difference between V1 and V2 just the heatsink?

Is so, i wouldn't care. I'd be getting some aftermarket either way.
