    is this chip ok too?

my budget is about £130 for the chip and upto £160 for the board.

why not go quad, do you think youll be able to get much more than your e6300' 3.5ghz? imo its not worth it but hey its your money. or you could get a nice 8800gtx/hd2900xt ? i just couldnt justify spending that £ on a board and chip witch will probably give you similar performance than your current especially just on air

Yes ASUS P5K Deluxe is one of the best Intel P35 motherboards, that's all. Soon the new Intel X38 motherboards will be out, but they won't fit your budjet and time, so you pretty much have only one choice. ;)

i am waiting for the penryn to come along,my mate wants my 6300 bad,hes got the dosh to put better ram in it and cooling on the board, which i think will get 4ghz+ from the chip.

i do fancy a q6600 but i cant afford it at the moment,so i'll wait for penryn.

so the asus is the better choice then?

given my budget,is the 6550 the best choice?
