Pascal is probably late into H2 2016, it will be long wait.

The short answer is that Pascal and Arctic Islands aren't early half of 2016. Waiting for them to not only release, but hit MSRP or lower will likely be either late 2016 or early 2017.

At the same time, buying a 970 or 380 (should you be flexible enough to go with AMD) would be a waste of money. People are still selling off 2xx and 7xxti series cards at reasonable prices. Spend somewhere between 100 and 200 dollars on one of them, and save the rest to buy a better GPU late next year.

wait for pascal, then you can have all the same issues as fury today xD

depends on the res you game at tbh.

low res like 1080 then even the 970 is going to serve you well. past that and you will need to look at the likes of the 980/290x/390x/980ti/fury ranges.

Currently I have no video card. I am looking at buying the MSI gtx 970 "gaming". It seems to be the best of the 970 lot, although I'm unsure of MSI's customer service as I haven't bought from them.

Should I get it or wait for NVidia Pascal? Anyone know when Pascal will be ready, other than just 2016? I'm betting even if it were released in Feb, I would need to wait several months for price reduction anyway.

Is this MSI card a good choice?

If so, which edition, 4G or ME?

Look for a used GTX 980 or try and find a deal on a new GTX 980. You'll be happier than getting a 970. You get the full 4GB of RAM with the 980 and its faster than the 970 without OC'ing. I wouldn't worry about waiting for Pascal cards. It's going to be a while.

This.

I went from MSI GTX 970 Gaming to Zotac GTX 780 Ti AMP.
MSI GTX 970 Gaming is super silence card that can overclock to 1516Mhz (even 100% fan is still acceptable but personally set fan to 70% which is very quiet).
Only thing that I can complain is lack of backplate. Most 970 have it.

While Zotac GTX 780 Ti AMP is louder (> 50% fan is noisy) consume more power but in term of raw power 780 ti oc can beat 970 oc sometimes by huge margin.
My 780 Ti OC to 1203Mhz. In GTA V @ 1440p I can crank graphics setting up more than 970 OC (Nvidia PCSS rather than Softest shadows in 970 , very high grass rather than high , long shadows , HR shadows , Extended Shadows Distance) and have the same FPS.
In neutral title or AMD title 780 ti OC at least match 970 OC but mostly outperform it. In Gimpworks you know not so well for Kepler. Try turn off Gimpworks option.

I sell 970 for 288$ and get 780 Ti for 283$ so not lost any value. :D

I tried a MSI 660 Ti PE OC before getting my 7970. It had problems detecting my Panasonic TV as HDCP compliant and caused BSOD when switching between PC and TV inputs. The prior GTS 250 I had and the 7970 I now have never had such a problem.

The worst part of it was MSI was not helpful at all through the process. They would mostly just act clueless about it, or speculate. I ended up calling back to talk to different staff numerous times because I was hoping to eventually get someone that knew what was causing it, or at least someone that would offer to RMA it. All these calls but one were at my expense. Then I insisted they call me back. Through it all though, no one ever took a ticket, so I had to reiterate the scenario every time I called.

I posted about it on the comment page of Newgg, mere matter of factually stating the problem of no HDCP detection and BSOD. MSI immediately responded stating my PC must be messed up, but in the same response said the GPU might be defective, which is an obvious and blatant contradiction of terms, and unfair assumption regarding my PC.

I tried to respond telling them after numerous calls no one would take a ticket or offer RMA, but Newegg blocked the post. After this I am reluctant to buy any MSI product period. If it weren't for Newegg's return dept allowing full refund, I'd have been totally screwed on the purchase, so I went straight back to them to get the 7970, even though I feel the people running their comments pages are very unfairly biased toward manufacturers.

Anyway, you need to state the res you plan to play at. A 970 is good for 1080p, but anything higher and I'd use a 390 or 390x. I'm waiting to see what Pascal and Zen will be like, but I have the 7970 to get me by quite adequately. For you, I would say Pascal is too long a wait.

If we're talking about new, get a Gigabyte Windforce 970 one. They overclock the best and have the (arguably) best cooler and aren't expensive at all. AMD card you could get a Sapphire Nitro for example, they are really good (else take a MSI or GB), I like them the most.
If we're talking old, get a 290X or 780 Ti, depends what you prefer, would be based on your personal preferations for about 200-250$/€. Clearly, thats what I would do. I bought a used 780 Ti myself from a friend a few days ago. Both, I'd go with a GB or Asus one, or Sapphire for a 290X.

On MSI topic: once I had a broken GeForce 7800 GT (used it for 2 years straight powerplay), it broke right before the warranty ended and they were kind enough to give me a 7900 GT as a replacement. So it went good in the end, I didn't think I get a replacement card at all and they even upgraded it on top of that.

Pretty sure I'll get the gigabyte 970, cause I don't care about the 0 fan speed at idle. The 780ti classified is quite nice looking but it seems support for it is declining? Seems it should be higher performance than 970 but drivers are not reflecting it?
Most games 780 Ti is faster or equal, but there are games like this:
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Star-...950/Specials/Beta-Technik-Benchmarks-1173656/

and in DX12 they are about equal again:
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/DirectX-12-Software-255525/Specials/Spiele-Benchmark-1172196/

If you plan to buy for DX12 straight, go for a 290X/290 or 390/390X. As you can see they scale really good there and have more Vram.

All the april rumour are for HPC (Tesla, NVLink Mezzanine form). They aren't any rumours of GeForce variants only that it will have 16GB possibly but that could just be the commercial Tesla or Quadro (Non-NVLink PCI-E form).

None of those rumour even mention a GP104 (cut down variant) which Nvidia has made the Top Tier for the past two Gens.

780TI should be doing alright still, i would wait for some thing not 28nm. By that time you be able to pickup games like Fallout 4 with all the silly dlc's it will spawn lol.

Might want to look AMD too depending on what your main game is when some thing lower than 28nm is released.

Thanks everyone. Decided to get either

new gigabyte g1 gaming 970
new msi 970 "100 ME"
or EVGA gtx 780 ti classified (a bit cheaper, maybe $80 less)

No brainer. You pay less for a big chip. GO BUY IT. And yell 'FUCK HAIRWORKS' when you run TW3 and enjoy better performance.

If you have nothing right now, I don't advise waiting. I may have missed it, but I didn't see what resolution your monitor is.

I advise several options: either get the MSI 970 (the 100ME has the highestconsistent user reviews on Newegg), which is a very good card that can be had close to $300 if you get it on sale, or $349 regularly, or get a used 780 or 780Ti. Especially if you are at 1080p.

The 780 is no slouch and will play most games maxed a out at that resolution without breaking much of a sweat.

All three cards can be very respectable at 1440p, just not maxed out all the time. Keep in mind though, it's not hard to fill up VRAM. I was playing Sniper Elite 3 last night maxed out at 1080p, and the VRAM usage was 3.2GB.

Here's a great deal I just saw today in my email from Newegg. It pays to be a subscriber of their special promo deals.
