My sister needs a new computer. And we are trying to figure out whats best a desktop or a laptop. her budget is $600 to 800. Put together a build that will last her a long time and be able to run Sims. Thanks

if it only needs to run sims and other things then go for a laptop if you need the portability

ROFL even before I read the thread I was going to suggest making sure the system is able to play the sims 3.

Just make sure it has an i5 7xx series, a lot of RAM medium GPU...5770, fastest HDD you can get for the price or she will be sitting there for a very very longtime looking at the loading screen.
And she will not be able to stare at facebook at the same time.

to be fair i think the slight slow down on the hard drive is insignificant compared to a processor thats twice as powerful and a slightly faster graphics card, go for the lenovo as its a quad core

yah my sister treated her laptop like CRAP, and she is still running xp on it. it has a centrino duo and 2GB of ram

Is the HD6570 in the Lenovo a good enough GPU for sims and what not??

acer is crap all around. their laptops are crap and so are the monitors. I've had two acer laptops and one acer LCD and they all died juuuust after warranty.... figures!

I took good care of them all.

my mom's acer overheats so much she can't use it on her lap for more then 20 minutes.

Acer has come along way as i've heard from lot of people i'm sure their higher priced laptops are better build quality than their budget range.

with the release of amd Llano series. Would it be worth it for my sister to wait for one of those laptops to release? Or will she still get more performance out of a core i5/GT540m setup???
