So I have a budget of 160$ for a gpu right now and I was looking at this . My 9600gt is aging, but I took advantage of the steam sale and have 10 2007 and earlier games that all play with decent to highest settings on my palit 9600gt sonic.

my hesitation is that the prices on the new ati line up are higher than they should be due to the fermi delay. and the fact that I'm not being able to compare new series to new series. this worries me because of a previous x700pro/6600gt debaucle.

and at the moment I have an outdoor pond project that i could use to money to get a new pond pump for. so basically i can't make up my mind.

play old games and get a pump for the pond, or get a new gpu.

For your situation, I'd say get the pond pump and wait for what Q1-Q2 next year brings, but if you are unsatisfied with the way games are playing, then NOW is the time to pick up a new card.

a 5770 or GTX260 will flog your 9600GT pretty well, but a 9600GT is not a complete slouch IMO. A tough choice indeed.

Yeah just wait man. Get your pump and wait a couple of months. Your 9600 is still able to eat whatever you'll throw at it. At least for now.

I wanna upgrade right now as well but the fermi delay is a PITA. IMO a 9600gt is NOT quite good enough for modern games like Dirt 2

NOT quite good enough indeed,, but 5770 wouldn't be amazing either once u turn up the eye candy. Wait wait wait , and watch if 5850 would drop down in price once fermi rolls out ..5850 is a beast

yeah I figure you're all right. the pump will serve me for time to come and seeing as I could only afford the new gpu and not a new game to actually take advantage of it. it's probabally for the best.

plus revision cards are always cheaper and faster anyways.
    thanks

NVIDIA's got their collective head up their butt and Larrabee ain't gonna happen for quite some time. I would only wait if you could keep using that card until Q3/Q4 2010.

actually based on my new game collection I am. It's going to take that long or longer to beat all the games I just bought because of my schedule. (wife, daughter, work, school, side work).

I'll see how my itching goes tonight though. it's just the last 2 times I bought ATI in december that screwed me with a new product in jan/feb lol.

Ati pumps out products fast to flood every price point, so you dont need to feel bad.

well i picked up a pump off of fleabay last night for 150$ 6100gph so I cant say i have any regrets at this point. especially when I'm still in the first half of star wars jedi knight : dark forces 2 released 1997 (went through original dark forces already have to say still fun)

so my 9600 isn't even beign tasked by the games I'm playing atm.

    thanks all for the help!
