new graphics card

ok so i need to get a new graphics card that will be able to run battlefield 3 on all high settings at 1680-1050 resolution. i cant spend over 200$. so i was thinking of either getting this car HIS H687FN1GD Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI... or getting this car ZOTAC AMP! ZT-50402-10L GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi)... and when a get more money i would get a second one. which option would you guys recommend? or if there is an other good card you guys wanna recommend me.

6870 without a doubt. Or this is $209 with rebate: XFX HD-695X-ZNFC Radeon HD 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 ...

The 6950 for 209$ is a steal. It's also better because I don't see your CPU handling crossfire well so one stronger card, the 6950 will do the trick until you get a new machine.

As others have said the ATI 6950 seems to be a good deal. If you can't stretch the 6870 will suffice. Recommend dropping a second hand Q9xxx at some point, BF3 multiplayer with 64 players seems to struggle on a dual core.

You can get a TF2 6870 for cheaper, which is a little slower but higher quality make (higher OC/VRM reliability) than the XFX non-ref. Those XFX's are cheaply made.

The 5870 is a more powerful card than the 6870.

gotta realize 5870 is becoming harder to find now, n driver support is being drained down on the 5800 series cuz of main focus on 6000 series

I've seen 5870's being sold on forums all over anywhere from $150 for ones with broken cooling to $200 for perfectly working ones.
But you're right, they're getting bought up because they're still very powerful cards. Hell my current 5850 can pretty much max anything at 1080p and still keep very playable frame rates (don't have BF3 yet, so I can't vouch for that).

Given the rest of your system specs why spend more? There's nothing wrong with it, but it is limited by the CPU and you might as well have a balanced system if you intend on keeping the PC for the foreseeable future.

rest assured the card works in BF 3 just fine or COD MW 3 well

I'd definitely go with the 6870 or with Erockers suggestion of the 6950 for $209 after the rebate. The performance from the 6950 is a fair bit better than the GTX 550ti
