I got a new SSD in the mail. Should be here sometime next week. I've never used an SSD before and I want to know what I should do.

Here is what I want to do....

    Objective:
Run a SSD for my OS and Applications while using a second 1TB drive as my documents drive. Maybe even have a third drive for backup. Haven't decided yet.

    Steps:
    1. I'm going to backup all my stuff to an external drive.

    2. Format the mechanical.

    3. Disconnect the mechanical.

    4. Hook up the SSD.

    5. Install Win7 onto the SSD.

    6. Update and install all apps.

    7. Hook up mechanical drive and restore my documents from the external.

If you guys see any mistakes let me know. Also once the SSD is installed I know I shouldn't defrag it. However what else should/shouldn't do?

Dude search for other threads like this. Your plan sounds O.K. imo

Nice. You will be pleased with that.

Your plan is solid. Just make sure you have a backup plan for the SSD and the HDD.
Also, given that you do GA work, put some more RAM in your system Crazy One.

What about pre-fetching and indexing? Should those be turned off?
