Who is your power supply made by at the moment? You can keep you CD-Drives, Flatscreen and probably fool M$ into letting you use XP on this new PC by saying it was a small upgrade when the key doesn't activate. Do you want it to be futureproof (eg PCI-E which I think may be cheaper now anyway)? Post a reply and I may be able to help you chose some components tommorrow.

I recomend this PSU. Odds are the one you have now has insufficient amperage. If you really want a nice one go for an OCZ PowerStream.

That looks like a good bet but you might want to consider getting two 80GB or 120GB SATAII hard drives and putting them in RAID 0 for really quick loading times. :D

Check out my RedChrome, you should be able to build close to it for $600 (without the WC)
    http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=11774

    Jetway GT4 mobo $50
    AMD 3000+ $113
    2 Hitachi 80 gig HDDs $100
    X850XT $135
    Memory $100
    PS Silverstone Strider $50

Than a couple of fans should be less than $600.

You dont need sli. If you selected the X1800 I would go for a crossfire motherboard. In the future when you have saved again, you can buy a faster processor and another X1800 to keep up. Easy upgradability is a big plus for a new machine.

Check out This case, can't beat a 250mm fan blowing air into your case. the other guys made some good recomendations for hardware. If you get this case, throw in some LED lights and youll have a cool looking glow.

Yeah, I bought one of those cases for a low end rig... real nice too. Just make sure to buy 6 80mm fans.

PVT that has a option front 120mm fan mount insted of 4 80mms, I hate 80mnm fans soooo much. Oh ALSO GET AKASA FANS!!! Let me link you these fans are amazing and quiet, unless you want led fans. http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/ak80amseulqu.html
give them a shot, super quiet. Or go with LED louder ones :)

I highly reccomend quiet fans, i really regret getting noisy high flow ones now.

Also Xclio makes another version of this case, same thing different appearance here
