NewEgg goes "Premiere"

Hopefully not violating this rule, but newegg is starting a "Premiere" program, where $50 a year gets you "Expedited Shipping", free returns, no restock fee, and some other minor perks.

This is a decent alternative to Shoprunner, unless you've gotten in on the "Free as long as you have an AmEx" setup. Free returns is the same with both, but you can suffer a restock with Shoprunner, and obviously, none of the NewEgg specific perks of "advance notification", whatever that is

Exactly. If someone is building a new system or just likes to buy a lot of stuff, it'd be worth it. Return postage and hassles can add up.

I don't buy anything from NewEgg now that I have an Amazon Prime account. And since Amazon has so much more than NewEgg as far as household items,etc I don't see a purpose in ever buying from NewEgg again. Sorry NewEgg, it's business not personal.

As a consumer, I applaud NewEgg for branching out to other areas while still providing excellent support and shipping. However, Prime also has a very very good streaming service at no additional cost. Prime still wins.

Yeah, I have the free Shoprunner with AMEX and do a lot more and varied shopping at Amazon (so Prime makes sense). Just doesn't seem worth it to me.

On the less positive side, I have already seen a noticeable decrease in the number of items available under the Shoprunner package, I assume being replaced with their "Premiere" membership. Called and gave an earful. Same price on Amazon with Prime, I no longer side with the 'Egg, I pull the trigger at Amazon.

NewEgg's site is much better for building a system. Their filtering tools are second to none.
That said, their site is going slower and slower every time I use it.
I have both one year of ShopRunner prepaid and I have Amazon Prime as well. If there's something specific I'm looking for I won't even bother checking NewEgg. If I'm simply browsing their sales or am configuring a system I'll go NewEgg.

I've ordered tens of thousands of stuff, both for me and clients, from NewEgg and Amazon and MaLabs, and never ended up with a bad part. But the egg's policies and pricing and website are becoming less competitive. Oh, and Amazon's customer service is miles better.

Amazon's filtering is an absolute mess. So many unrelated items popping up plus items you want sometimes get filtered out the more you drill down on a segment. Weird. I use Newegg for research and along with the Hover Hound addon for Chrome or Firefox it really makes shopping for gear much easier.

I also used Newegg to piece together my system then went to Amazon and bought most of the parts. Saved about $60.

Saving $60 isn't worth it for me to order from Amazon over Newegg. I'll spend the $60 to not have to wait for Amazon's slow processing and shipping.

Not sure what you are talking about. All the parts came from the local warehouse and were shipped the same day. I received all items a day early (I had free two day shipping. ).

Newegg always takes longer to get my items sent out when I buy from them.

Also, the $60 was just the parts price. I probably saved another $80 in tax (didn't have to pay tax on Amazon at the time) , but that doesn't apply everywhere so I didn't mention it.

Newegg always processes and ships my orders same day, and ships UPS so I receive everything in 3 business days at most, usually 2 business days if it is coming from TN or NJ.

Amazon has never managed to process an order in less than 2 business days for me, and ships almost everything USPS, so anything I order from Amazon takes a minimum of a week to get to me.

For example, I ordered a set of cordless phones from Amazon on Dec. 10th, I didn't receive them until Dec. 20th. The same day I ordered a laptop from Newegg, I received it the Dec. 14th. And the laptop was even shipped using the "Super EggSaver" option. Newegg shipping has been far more consistent and fast for me in the past.

It has been a few years since I ordered from Amazon without Prime, but I seem to remember items being shipped by the next day at the very least. Was the item you purchased from Amazon actually sold by Amazon or another company who just listed the item there?

Newegg also process your order on Sunday. But lately they have been using Fedex transfers to USPS and its hella slow. I ordered a SSD two weeks ago and it took 10 days. They could have dropped it into the mail and I would have received it in 2 days. I e mail them and complained. Amazon has gotten a lot faster in the last year

Amazon fails with tax for us here so Newegg's better regardless. And evewn if newegg was a little more exspenive they delivered the best shopping experience and trust going else were would be just wrong anyways.

Depends on were you live.. How ever UPS is the best for us and when newegg say you getting the item UPS will deliver a day earlier.

Fedex forget it and you have to wait in all day from 9-7pm at night unlike UPS were it's 12-1:30pm which is win win for us..

Other wise just have to keep ya eye open.

And USPS is just a pain in the ass.

Since you and newtekie1 have the same experience with Amazon, I wonder if the non-Prime users have a lower priority to getting orders sent out. However, if your order is sent out in a timely manner, you have to place the blame on the carrier not Amazon.

Yes, the items were directly from Amazon, not 3rd parties.

Yeah, if you get the Super EggSaver shipping, they use the horrible FedEx to USPS or even worse the DHL to USPS. I never select that option unless I really don't need the item quickly. But since Amazon ships everything I order via USPS anyway, Amazon isn't any better.

That is part of the problem. Newegg ships UPS 3-Day Select as their standard shipping option, Amazon uses USPS. USPS takes forever to get me stuff.

Yeah, USPS is awful. Ordered a new case from newegg and chose the Super EggSaver. They sent it UPS Ground. Guess I got lucky.
