I have a BENQ 2nd monitor hooked up to my laptop.. Recently it started flickering on and off (It's new, only had it about 3 months) and today when I plugged it in it said , "No signal detected" and wont display.. then swiches off.. (on off switch light goes orange instead of green).

I have tried a different cord. Same thing happens..

Recently I updated my graphics card driver in my laptop and this was around the same time the trouble started with the 2nd screen (Vista... was trying to speed it up because it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow !)

Now.. I just want my screen to work so I can get on with my work here .. you know.. do some of my stuff instead of everyone elses ..just for a change..

Thanks everyone who has a look :)

follow that links instructions after you go and retrieve an older driver from the manufacturer.

ATI or Nvidia moble drives should be easy to locate, just be sure to search for the older ones as the newest always show first. If its an intel GPU or similar drivers may be a bit tougher to locate, but still can be done in the same mannor.

Hi and thanks for answering so quick..

Can I just ask.. If I download and older driver? Is this to replace the driver update I did recently or are you talking about a separate driver for the 2nd screen?

(I am having real slooow issues with Vista and its speed)

(ps.. forgive my always questioning things.. I am really afraid of stuffing things up and everything already is sooo time consuming and I just want to get on with my stuff hey. Appreciate any drops of patience)

replacing the driver the update "possibly" wont allow. This is only testing to see if the update is just a fluke coincidence, or actually the cause of your issues. the screen should run at minimal resolution w/o a specific monitor driver, but lets go one step at a time. If we can get the screens working, you can maybe create a more specific thread for the OS "slooow" issues;)

I'd rather you ask questions and know what you are doing, then attempting it half assed and causing more issues:D

ok.. forgive my dyslexia..

I completely misread/understood your first answer..

When you say older driver from the manufacturer.. you mean for the Display adapter in Device Manager or driver for BENQ monitory.. (sorry)

an older driver for the GPU of the laptop. You never said what specific lappy or GPU so my first comment was more generalized. Who is the GPU manufacturer? I can possibly help locate the driver, then you just follow the steps in the link I posted to get the job done most efficiently.

here's a page for the drivers for that video chip

Newest Drivers

and for the older drivers... Older Drivers Just pick one then you can either pick "display driver only" or get the full pack, its up to you.

after you download it you should be able to just run the setup and follow the steps in the setup screens.

as far as the computer running really slow... how much ram does the laptop have?

RAM I have 4GB

IT WORKED! Thanks guys.. a million :)

Now.. what cool things can I do to make my vista run a bit faster whilst using the 2nd screen and doing some graphics?

remove vista and load win7

jk, but you could try turning off aero effects and see if that helps. and that 4gb ram is enough for vista. on thing that could speed it up a little would be to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive instead of 5400rpm... but software wise i guess you could run a program called ccleaner. it cleans out a lot of temp files and can also be used to check for minor registry problems (leftover entries from old programs, etc). here's the linky -> ccleaner
It can also be set to run at startup and be used to also set which programs load at startup. a defrag might help too
