Is there an option in vista, power dvd, media player or sound card software where you checked a box for headphone use or something? Anything like that? Try uninstalling power dvd. I do remember that was a headache when I upgraded to vista64.

I just updated my specs...I have Power DVD v7 should I uninstall it?

Just uninstalled power dvd, still not working. I have made sure that there are no headphone settings on the system.

HD-DAI stands for 'High Definition-Dedicated Audio Interface'. It's how the Razer Headphones connect to the Razer Card.

The term High Definition is buzz words to get people to empty their wallets. It doesn't mean you'll get surround sound; personally the headset isn't very good in my opinion.

As for the Prologic IIx & DTS, I can't enable them both at the same time and if I enable them individually, it doesn't change a thing.

Prologic IIx and DTS Neo: PC is two different features intended to up mix 2.0 to 5.1 and you're not supposed to apply them together. At the Oxygen driver configuration select "headphones" within the analogue output and then select the "Dolby Headphone" tab in conjunction with either Prologic IIx or DTS Neo:pC and you should get surround in games.

Edit: For Power DVD you have to manually select 5.1 Prologic IIx within its configuration(Power DVD's audio settings are independent to the Oxygen's drivers settings)

Do you think my problem will be solved if I buy a card with real time encoding? Will my games also have surround sound?

Your current Razer AC-1 Barracuda 7.1 soundcard does support real time encoding of Dolby and DTS but it can only be used in conjunction with an AV receiver or speaker system with built in AV receiver such as the Logitech z-5500 to decode the encoded signals when using Digital outputs (Fibre or Coaxial). Your headset is letting you down not your soundcard.

If the above mentioned is correct, why does my sound work perfectly in Windows XP on the exact same system. (dual boot)???

Just because you get sound from all speakers or get surround sound effects it doesn't mean it's Dolby Digital. The Virtual Speaker, Dolby Headphones, and Prologic IIx features only emulate Dolby and should be applied if you're using an analogue connection (Creative Inspire T6060 is analogue). For real encoded Dolby Digital or DTS bit streams you need either an AV receiver or speaker system with built in receiver using either fibre, coaxial, or HDMI.

If the Virtual Speaker, Dolby Headphones, and Prologic IIx features aren't working in Vista specifically it probably a driver issue and all you can do is reinstall the sound card's drivers again.

Thanks for the info.

As for the driver reinstall, I tried several times, even emailed Razer. I still have an open support ticket from over 2 months ago. They have proven to be little help.

Do you really think it's driver related, because I can do the sound test in Vista with all speakers functioning.

All I want, is for all my speakers to work in my games.

Vista is a dodgy operating system anyways, why dont you just game in XP if you've got dual boot set up?

Did you attempt your game with Prologic IIx enabled as I suggested before? Your settings should look like this

or this

If you were using digital speakers + receiver over Coaxial/Fibre you'll get Dolby 5.1/DTS 5.1 regardless, most people buy this types of encoding cards for this purpose. I did :)

I just checked for HD oxygen drivers for my Barracuda and found that it's using the C-Media Oxygen HD CMI8788 drivers. There isn't any drivers for Vista yet.

I can't really test your settings.

Thanks Darren,

With these settings I get sort of 5.1ch sound. It's not good but it's sure better than stereo!

I think the problem is something other than my drivers, because my onboard sound has the same problem.

What can I do to improve sound quality?

Creative is horse crap. They will stress you out more because they don't believe in drivers, technical support and it's their religion to lie to customers. Stay away you've got a good soundcard. As I before I think you should invest in either a AV receiver or the Logitech z-5500 because it has built in receiver and you can get Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 over SPDIF without hassle and complications.

Your settings look correct, the only thing I'd change is the Prologic IIx Entertainment Mode to "Movie" mode oppose to "Music" and I'd change the source channel to 5.1 opposed to HD-DAI but as long as Prologic IIx or virtual speakers is selected you should get surround.

the Z-5500's support analogue (3 3.5xmm stereo plugs, as on normal headphones) optical and coax.

They will rock your world. and your desk. hehe.

What will be the best connection to my sound card (Razer Barracuda AC-1)?

as i said earlier discussing connections, it comes down to two things:

Digital will sound better, but requires dolby/DTS encoding to work in 5.1
Analogue does 5.1 fine for any 5.1 source (Games, DVD's etc) but may not sound as good.

On either connection type, music will still be 2.0 sound - you will need to enable upmixing (prologic) in the speakers to get that over all your channels. (its NOT surround sound. its a technicality that i enforce because calling upmixed audio surround simply confuses people)

Earlier on someone said your card can do encoding, so you can choose either - however as an owner of a card with encoding who uses the optical connection, i can say that once encoding is on the speakers beleive its a 5.1 signal all the time and you cant use pro-logic.
(you have to disable encoding and go back to 2.0 digital or analogue in order to use the upmix to get fake surround sound audio)

In terms of sound quality it is debatable as there is a huge technological argument which has been going on for decades between analogue and digital. But to achieve Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 (using the Dolby Digital Live or DTS Interactive feature) on the Razer AC-1 in conjunction with the Logitech Z-5500 you're required to use either a coaxial or fibre optical cable. Neither cable is better than the other; just get the cheapest you can afford. (PS. if you dig around in your Razor Barracuda's box it should have came with a free fibre cable :))
