First please allow me to apologize for registering and account. I don't think I'll be on here much because 1. I hope I won't need this much help often and 2. I'm sure my cursory knowledge pales in comparison to most of yours so I don't think I can actually HELP anyone. That being said, I humbly beg for help oh great and mighty Techies! "My" computer has been disabled for four or five months now and I've casually tried a few things, but TODAY! TODAY I WILL SAVE DOOMPUTER!! . . . It's been 5 hours today and I fear that even with Google's help, I need more. *sigh Here's my problem: I push computer's power button, Computer appears to load a screen that looks like the box for it's "GIGABYTE" Motherboard (While on this screen, I can mash all the F# buttons I want to with no avail. The computer refuses to even load what I recognize as BIOS and Boot Screens). Computer then trudges on to a big black screen starting with Disabled Slaves and Masters and ending with "AMD Data Change...Update New Data to DMI" (Which is how I found this forum!) After that all I can do is turn it back off by smothering the Power button until it DIIIIEEES! (Oh gawd the horror). How I've Tried to Save Doomputer Boot from DVD with an Install Mint ISO on it == Fail Boot from external hard drive and install Mint == Fail Boot from external hard drive and install Ubuntu == Fail Computer Surgery (Despite my lack of Computer Medical License! MUAHAHA!) Research and Find CMOS Jumper == Fail (I found the prongs where one should be, but there is no jumper! I took pictures because that sounds slightly improbable). Pull out battery, wait (or change an infant's diaper), replace == Fail Research and carefully remove GeForce Graphics card while nervously sweating profusely, switch to onboard graphics card == Fail I can provide lots of pictures upon request! I'm good at taking pictures, and knitting! Even if I can't computer, I'm good at knitting. Additional Information: The computer had Linux, Mint OS on it before it died. I've been told it has 2 BIOS so if one is corrupted, the other can kick in. This computer was put together by husband who abandoned it after buying a laptop for various reasons. (Then subsequently gave it to me because I refuse to give up on it)! If I have mislabeled any specs, please forgive me, I just learned what they all are earlier today. When it was being built, I remember "Radeon" being mentioned, but I can't see that on any components, nor can I find any manuals for it. Oh great gods of computers, please hear my plea and if you see fit, bring Doomputer back from the dead! I thank you and offer my deepest appreciation and offerings of imaginary food and shiny things.
