Thought everyone might be interested in this:

A group of Indian hackers say they have obtained the source code for Norton AntiVirus software, as well as "confidential documentation," that they will share on websites for all to see.
The group, which calls themselves "The Lords of Dharmaraja," said it plans to publish the information on several different websites, "since we experience extreme pressure and censorship from US and India government agencies." It shared some of the information — some of which appears several years old — and a statement on the PasteBin file-sharing site. The original post was deleted, but a version is available to be seen via Google's cache of it.

Full Story

At the moment this is all just rumor, but I thought I would share the rumor anyway.

^ It's true

Symantec, confirming the theft in an e-mail posted Friday, said the chunk of pilfered code was stolen from a third party, was old, and that its own network had not been breached. "Symantec can confirm that a segment of its source code used in two of our older enterprise products has been accessed, one of which has been discontinued," according to a spokesman for Symantec.

It means: never use discontinued antivirus software

Symantec today backed away from earlier statements regarding the theft of source code of some of its flagship security products, now admitting that its own network was compromised.

This is worse

Symantec spokesman Cris Paden Paden said that source code of Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, Norton Internet Security, Norton Utilities, Norton GoBack and pcAnywhere, had been stolen.

Srs bsns!

"We've decided not to release code to the public until we get full of it," hacker nicknamed "Yama Tough" wrote on Twitter Monday . "1st we'll own evrthn we can by 0din' the sym code & pour mayhem."

So yeah ...

In the message, "0din'" likely stands for "zero-daying," meaning attacks launched against unpatched vulnerabilities.

Also on Monday, Yama Tough claimed that he had some or all of the source code for pcAnywhere, a multi-platform remote access suite that Symantec sells.

"PCAnywhere code is being released to blackhat community for 0d expltin!," said Yama Tough, again on Twitter .

And Symantec says ....

"Symantec is currently in the process of reaching out to our pcAnywhere customers to make them aware of the situation and to provide remediation steps to maintain the protection of their devices and information"
