I am always an Underdog cheer person. Also my brand of choice is ATI always has been.

So I would be really surprised if Femi doesn't beat ATI's offerings. Not because that the 5800 series is a bad card because it isn't. It's just because Nvidia has had a little bit longer to work on it. Nvidia had a chance to see what ATI was making.. and then will have a chance to counter it.

Just like when the 6800 series will release. By that time ATI will have a chance to see femi in all of it's glory and then counter.

I think because both companies have grown so large and are capable of such high performance..... I don't think we will ever see a clear winner again. Like for example the 2900XT vs. the 8800GTX. Also because of that match up (8800 vs. 2900XT) that took Ati awhile to recover from. So remember they have been fighting back almost from a postion of being a generation behind Nvidia.

Unless something drastically changes I think it would just be wise to pick a card manufacturer and just stick with them. Unless you are one of those people that needs the absolute best at all times....(like most of us are) the odds are if your manufacturer doesn't have the feature you want and the other card does. Well then just wait till your manufacturers next generation card because then I am sure that feature will be on it!

Now with that said I think Femi will be a very powerful computing card. I think it will easily out compute.... the pants off of the 5800 series. But at the same time I wonder about it's gaming performance.
From what I have read and I might be wrong.... but it might just be marginally better in gaming performance if not on par as for as the 5800 series goes.

Nvidia looks like they are planning on taking their company a different way than ATI. It looks like they want to brake more into the computing area. While ATI doesn't really have a need for that. ATI has AMD and that is what they take care of. So ATI looks to me like they are just consternating more on the gaming aspect of video cards.

Hey I could be wrong about all of this but it sure is fun to speculate!!!

Well I do not know the only thing that can happen is the fermi hit the 5850 and 5770 in 5970 .. now she will not get

I don't think though.... that in anyway on god's green earth though that a mid range Femi will beat out a 5970. A 5850 almost definitely. Possibly a 5870 and I do say only Possibly! But that's only if what they are releasing is a a equivalent of the 260GTX = 360GTX. But if they are releasing like a 350 GTS I believe you could see a 5850 performance.

The performance scale you will probably see will be very similar to last gen.

Top Dog.....

too bad that's not supposed to be the high-end card, but GF103 is. But it's still good news, as if they have cards, they are working on drivers right at this moment.

What? The GF100 is the high end-card, the one based on GT300 chip, the only one we have been hearing about, with 512 shader processors, 384 bit etc. The other one, is one that is going to be even faster (at graphics), but probably lacking the powerful integer unit present in GT300/GF100, the strong cache hyerarchy and maybe even lacking the half speed 64 bit execution, opting for the old and typical (and present in Evergreen) 1/4 speed. Cutting off those features would decrease die area a lot and could let them include 640-768 SPs (and related units like TMUs) on the same area as current GT300/GF100. It's probably going to be what G92 was to G80 or RV670 was to R600, except there's not going to be built in a smaller process.

I am always an Underdog cheer person. Also my brand of choice is ATI always has been.

But the fact is if you look at the last two generations.... it's almost like Nvidia and ATI have been splitting up the year. the 4800 series came out back in June or July of 08 if memory serves and the GTX200 series came out in January of 09 again if memory serves. [...]

GT200 was released 1 month before RV770. That's how Ati caught Nvidia with the pants down with the pricing. Nvidia was following the old convention (used by both companies) of $600 for the fastest card and $400 for the second fastest card and Ati came with $200-$300 pricing and the price war began. Until then ALL new generation high end cards were released above $500, by both comanies, remember that RV670 and 8800GT cards were kind of midrange cards. They were in the higher-end of the spectrum, but they were more like next-gen mainstream/performance cards, just like HD57xx cards now.

EDIT: I was beaten by HalfAHertz on the post below.

@20mm: The GTX200's came before the HD4000's, were the better performer but ridiculously priced...I think it's wiser to stick with whatever's best at the moment instead of being brand agnostic.

Did they really what the hell am I thinking about maybe the GTX295???

Ahhhh yes you are right disregard my previous statement. I must of been thinking of the release date of possibly the GTX295 and GTX285? I could be even wrong about that. But never mind..... Must not be thinking right today :banghead: I edited my previous statement!

@20mm: The GTX200's came before the HD4000's, were the better performer but ridiculously priced...I think it's wiser to stick with whatever's best at the moment instead of being brand agnostic.

I still disagree with that... though!!! If you stuck what was best at the moment you will be spending money every 4 months. Now I am an enthusiast as much as the next guy but spending an extra 200$ just to get 5 extra FPS ever 4 months is even ridiculous for me.
The reason I say an extra 200$ buck is because I am assuming that person would do the smart thing and sell the previous card.
So again I see brand loyalty and if not brand loyalty I see buy the brand that has the features you want from the beginning and then stick with them.

Yes I think the GTX295 and GTX285 were released around that time.

found that they will release high end cards only after 6 months....& they are planning to release 2 mid range cards NOW !
I hope they will release something to beat HD5770 and HD5850

and GF100 Video Cards To Support 32x Anti-Aliasing Mode

With today high resolution monitors is it really necessary to have AA anymore?
I doubt you would see anything difference over 4x AA with resolution 1900x1200 or higher...

playing my games at 1600x1200 2xAA , 4xAA & 8xAA i don't see any differences between all three of then ...well maybe a tiny bit with 2xAA but that is all

I don't know if it is about that. I think it might boil down too the need or should I say want for the Highest picture quality you can achieve.
If you notice everything now days is High Def this or High Clarity that? Also with the fact that gamers want the quality to look the best it can ..... I think it's just one extra cherry on top. You know something that doesn't really matter ..... but something that you just say you have...... gives you that many more inches on your man hood!

Can't tell a difference between 8x and 4x with 1920x1200, but the gaps between no AA to 2x and 2x to 4x are still huge...............with my eyes:toast:

Yeah personally I don't care too much about AA beyond 4x, but I do see the difference. Like 20mm hinted, there's a difference between what you really need and what you want, and considering that for enthusiasts "wanting" becomes "needing" pretty fast... nothing is too much.

Personally I would have preffered 32x anisotropic filtering, because I'm much more sensible sensitive (why is it different in spanish and english :banghead:) to that aspect of picture quality, but anything is good. I hope it's a true 32x AA or at least something better than the 16x (Nvidia, not the Q one) and 24x (Ati, CFAA) modes we already have, because those are nothing but 4xAA and 6xAA respectively with some tricks that don't really improve quality for my eyes. They even blur the textures, something that is unacceptable for me, like I said give me texture quality over smoothness anyday.

I am kind of sensitive to AA kind of like Benetanegia said. Anything after 8xAA though I can't tell any longer.
It might be the resolution I am playing at most of the time. 1680x1050 but..... even on my Living Room 37inch LCD I couldn't tell any different either and that was at 1920x1080P.

Sure I want the best picture I can get but as of right now..... AAx32 is just a little extreme. But the better they get with AA and AF the better the picture looks for all of us. So I hope they keep going with the technology.
I'm hoping one day this conversation will be irrelevant and all GPU's can run AA and AF setting with out any performance loss. That would be absolutely wonderful.

But like I said before right now...... I just think it's a novelty! But a really really cool one. Kind of like Aero Glass :)

but the gaps between no AA to 2x and 2x to 4x are still huge.

That statement I agree with though! Between 2xAA and 4xAA there is a huge difference. I can still play with AA x 4 and not have a problem but I do prefer the picture even better at 8 x AA. But after 8...... you could tell me it was at 128xAA and I would believe you. (If I didn't know any better)

The texture bluring with CFAA is a terrible problem with the wide-tend mode.
I believe this is what you are talking about.

The second narrow-tend is better mode, but the bluring is still quite noteable with text in games.

With the Edge-Detect mode introduced with the HD3k series, it actaully looks quite good.
The problem with this mode is that it has quite a large performance hit.
This mode is the mode that actually achieve "24x quality", it is 8xAA on steroids.

I still disagree with that... though!!! If you stuck what was best at the moment you will be spending money every 4 months. Now I am an enthusiast as much as the next guy but spending an extra 200$ just to get 5 extra FPS ever 4 months is even ridiculous for me....

You misunderstood me. What I meant to say was to buy whatever is best at the time of your upgrade, not buy the next best thing imediately after it comes out (as hard as it is to resist :D )
