Fair enough that they came out yesterday, I don't think many people were suggesting that you re-reviewed all ATi cards using the 10.3 drivers though, only the relevant cards such as the 5850 and 5870.

Other sites seemed to have the time to do so (quite a few by the looks of things).

I don't think many people are expecting "the moon", no way near that at all, I know I'm not at least.

But I'm sure most people would see it as simple as "well other sites managed to use 10.3s, why couldn't TPU?".

Don't let douchy comments get to you w1z. if you can deal with people like me being on the site for years, you are strong enough to handle anything. lol.

At any rate, in your opinion, if you take power consumption out of the equation, 480 or 5870 @ 1920x1200 resolution?

Right, so we expect W1z to do 1600 test AND provide us with juicy graphs all within a day. I recommend you to try to do a full benching suite the way W1z did on any graphics card and report how long it took you. And then come back when its done with the time you took. Anyone with brains would know that is an absurd request.

Oh, so the other sites provide review as thorough as W1z. And they did it without pay. And they have a life.

That's not how it works. The test-bed should stay uniform at all times, with the same drivers in place. If you plan to change the drivers, rebench every single card. Again you can't come up with a relative performance chart with a salad of different cards running with different settings. Credibility takes a blow.

Credibility also takes a blow when you come up with things such as "relevant cards". HD 5870 doesn't deserve special status in this review, it isn't even the same price-range. It's just a presentation of how cards play out.

Show me such a site with 1600 tests in the review.

Because it shouldn't matter. A review strives to be neutral, and you read a review taking note of test-bed configuration before you get into tests. Giving certain cards certain drivers is not a show of neutrality, just as sticking to 9.12 is not a show of partiality.

    W1zzard,

You are a good guy with good reviewing skills and known for one of the most influential and trusted utilities on GPUs. When enthusiasts think GPU they think GPU-z, W1zzard, and TechPowerUp among other things not directly associated to your site. People trust you and your opinion to make purchases with fairly large amounts of money. That is power that you don't directly see although it reaches a far greater scope than just this forum. You are respected across the internet. If that power and fame isn't enough to keep going with reviews then stop reviewing. I just want you to enjoy life. Whatever that takes, do it. Life is too short to do it any other way. :toast:

Can't have an opinion that isn't popular?

I'm just as entitled to express my opinion as others. I don't see why I'm not getting moaned at considering I've been far more reasonable than those doing the real moaning.

So you can take your "stfu" and use it yourself considering you don't seem to be able to have a debate like a mature adult.

But the problem is, you keep dragging out the issue. State your opinion, and move on. No need to keep going with it. All you are doing at this point is pissing people off.

I got replies, I replied to them, seriously, talk about dragging it on when you're doing the very thing your self.

    Back on topic.

Still, anyone else except me, thinks that nvidia won big mostly on the POPULAR games, and nvidia optimized games??? I mean, I'm looking at games or benches with good implementation like 3D Mark, or those with the Source engine....hmmm

The 3D Mark thing is also very interesting. I was expecting more from nvidia here, especialy since it was always their favorite bench...

    +1

Yeah W1zz is a legend, ATI tool, GPU-Z, OK maybe some have gone over the top with the driver thing but either way TPU is highly respected on the web and is in the top sites people visit for hardware reviews and the latest tech info. I always recommended TPU to members on other forums when it comes to tech reviews.

W1zz and his crew must be doing something right.

Yeah sure, I'd like to have seen it done with the new drivers, but let's face it, that would have been practically impossible with the depth of comparison you get with w1zzard's reviews. Too many cards are compared for retesting them all to be that frequent. The only thing I can think of that would have been possible with the time constraints would have been to mix driver versions and just list the driver version next to each card.... but that sort of defeats the point of the comparison.

Reason I stated relevance, regardless of price bracket, is because the GTX480 will naturally be assumed to go against the 5870 and the GTX470 against the 5850, considering their performance, it's not something you would wonder about.

I'd reckon when it came down to it, price aside, people will be wondering what they should get, a 5870, or a GTX480.

Do you REALLY rebench all included cards each time you review a new one?

Look at performance/$ @ 1920 x 1200 graph. If even $$$ isn't a factor, GTX 480. Yours is an open bench so cooling isn't an issue.

You're dragging it on. Just came back from a weeks vacation to this. You are dragging it. Stop that.

Anyway, Fermi is pretty much exactly what I thought it would be in gaming. A bit too hot, but it scales really well with overclocking though. Should be interesting to see what happens when people put some ln2 on them. :D

For an entire brand if the driver version changes and is being compared in a chart then yes.

TBH you would have to be a masochist to go with a 480, it's a terrible release, overclock a 5870 and the 480 is irrelevant, temps are crazy, power draw is borderline ridiculous, way overpriced.

It is release drivers so accurate performance figures with mature drivers would be months from release really.

I've always used TPU for my daily dosage of hardware news, and offcourse will do so in the future. I wonder what this page would be without guys like w1zz, btarunr and the other guys that makes this the "one", neutral and correct place to be.

So, for this fantastic and neutral review, I really don't give the **** if it was used an older driver on the ATI cards. I think, this is now well known. The "funny" thing is that the near six months older cards from ATI perform very well against the fresh card from nVidia, and really, fanboy or not, ATI is in the evolution drivers seat. I was really shocked that the rumors about nVidia really was true. What happened to thm, really? Still, ATI has the best "one card" in the 5970, but I think nVidia will come up with a dual sollution soon as well.

Ok, well, great that the competition lives on, great to see a competive card from nVidia again! Not my flavor, though.

Now I realize, we need to get mules and slaves to make the new power plant for the 3-way sli review  I don't want w1z's house collapsing into a black hole when he turns on the cpu.

But what about from the standpoint of someone like me. Temps and power are a total non-issue for me. I have a huge psu and I watercool everything. Plus, lets not forget the benefit of CUDA apps.

Although I do have enough psu, there's still the power bill to consider.

It's just such a tough decision for me. I really like the folding and CUDA power of the nv cards, but the power consumption of the ATI cards is so spectacular.
