It will chug LN2 like winos in a vineyard:toast:

As with any Vantage record really. Fermi is no different in that respect. I like regular TEC just as much and it isn't as dangerous. I have never used LN2 on computer parts though.

I haven't seen any F@H benchies for this thing. I'd be interested to know how it compares to the 285 & 295. Of course, I'm only interested in a W1zzard review, not any other site... :D

this 480 card is going haul ass when cold

I love how the ATi fanboys in the linked thread said silly faggy comments like, "We are talking about ATi here. What did they ever do to us?". Most pathetic crap I have ever seen. No company has ever made me their bitch.

The moral of the story

Also, for anyone that thinks W1zzard's reviews aren't comprehensive enough, compare the latest GTX 480 review with his 8800 GTX review from November 2006. He only compared it to 3 cards back then. Now, it's what, 10-15 at a time and with more games and resolutions? That's a lot more work than before and much more informative for us. There's also more information on various aspects of the card in current reviews.

The moral of the story is to appreciate and respect the guy for his quality reviews and to provide constructive criticism and suggestions only. Leave the fanboi flaming at home. :slap:

Of course we can tell the difference lol. It's like going back to the 90's.

I'd like to note that this is not new at all. For those with short memories, this "optimization" was discovered by Alienbabeltech.com just weeks after the HD5xxx series was released and was mainly posted and defended by Bo_Fox in several threads. Although I could clearly see the difference in many games, I didn't insist too much on the matter, but it did start the succession of events that led to the permanent ban of Bo_Fox. I'm not saying it was banned to censor him, since he was banned for how he did it and not for what he was saying, namely breaking many rules, but it was the constant "criticism" he suffered from Ati fanboys, who were constantly denying the facts and at some points insulting him, which led to his behavior.

With 8xSS, the surfaces in the gray rings look absolutely superb, and all star patterns are almost invisible. Sadly the sharp transitions are still present however.

http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=12648&page=6

Also if you look carefully in all of the 5770 pictures, you can see two borders running horizontally that very slightly mark transitions of varying texture detail. This is probably caused by the same issue that caused the sharp gray transitions earlier, and I’ve marked the 8xSS picture with white arrows to show them. It’s tough to see them in still screenshots, but they’re more apparent during movement.

Nope its just people keep going on and on about TWIMTBP and ATI AI when both sides uses them as excuses for their cards short comings. Get over it. Both sides do it.

Oh yeah, of course both sides do it, that's why this should have attention, so that it gets fixed. Nvidia fixed the issue with 169.04 in a little over a week, when they released the 169.21 betas. If Ati does the same and fixes it soon, there's no harm. But that's exaclty why this has to be mentioned everywhere, because it's been happening for months, but with little notoriety and hence it was not fixed!!

It's not noticeable?

Maybe you don't, but I do and many do. I know that I would never pay for a faster newer card so that I can increase IQ (i.e AA levels) just to get the IQ reduced instead. Yah many people claim they see no difference between AA and no AA, or AF and no AF, but there is. The seams between LODs is very noticeable, the fact that some or some can't see the difference means nothing. We would need to know if you all really see no difference. Ask a PS3 or Xbox360 owner if they notice the lack of AA/AF or the fact that their 1080p games are upscaled...

The difference we are talking about is no where near that. Of course you can tell the difference between a lack of AA/AF but the issue he was talking about is a mild engine tweak at driver level. You are exaggerating.

No. For me those seams are far more noticeable than AA at 1920x1200 or between 2xAF and 16xAF. There's no comparison between some little jaggies and a constant obvious line 2 meters in front of you.

You never use Vsync I suppose, since it would be the most stupid thing you could do. If you cant see a permanent line, why on earth would you see a line that appears just 1 or 2 frames every second...

Probly better to hold all the pissing match until next week (@ least for No. America region) when GTX480 and 470 will be available at retail channel:)

Buy the card or cards and see for yourself

Because its not noticeable. Who cares. I mean really.

The problem is that if they don't fix it and say two driver updates later there's another bug that degrades IQ and then 3 updates later another one, sooner or later it all adds up and we end up with much poorer IQ because of laziness...

It's far more noticeable while gaming than on a still image. And seriously I'm not going to waste my time showing you further evidences, if it doesn't bother you, that's right, but don't say there's nothing there, because there is. This is like dicussing if there is difference between 4xAA and 32xAA, of course there is a heavy improvement, but it's subjective and some will no see it (some will not care, some will be willing to accept it for improved performance...). But in this analogy we have been using 32xAA since late 90's and some of us just don't want to go back.

But in this analogy we have been using 32xAA since late 90's and some of us just don't want to go back.

i'm sry to post that but keep it civil and dont get booted,i would feel bad if that would happen.
if true(which it looks 1000%) the thing that gets my goat no 1 gives a rats ass might be playing games that look like pong again lol
if no one say shit about it wont get fixed or even admitted

Honestly I have yet to see any real proof of it.
