How many releases do we have to live before this kind of price posts stop being taken seriously? It's been less than 2 weeks since the last release (HD68xx). Do I have to remember that the cards were posted as being $350 in a similar way as this? Come on guys, no offense, but release after release after release...

its because the price nvidia had on the 8800ULTRA is burned into people's memory and the cards are overpriced falsely with that in mind

I never read the 68xx series being listed as 350. The 69xx series sure. Maybe I missed the article? With that being said IF the price is 599 there is no way they can justify that price.

Yes USD. But just like in this case, the price is not such really. It's always the price listed in another country with a different currency and most always with all the local taxes applied. Plus the pre-order premium that some stores ask for.

i.e this way a HD6870 that selling for 225 Euros is a fairly good price in the EU, gets listed for 260 euros for pre-order on a certain etailer, which is more interested in getting some attention than anything else, and someone in some forum or news site on the other end of the world takes a calculator and says 260 euros == 365 USD, and he's ready to post his article: "HD6870 to sell for $365". It happens release after release after release and it drives me nuts.

Um, what did you expect as a price? The GTX580 will be faster than the HD5970 and that still sells for 550$+

Well as people before me said, an OCed GTX480 is almost as fast as a HD5970, Just check out the lightning review

And an overclocked 5970 just puts everything back to 0 so it doesn't really matter.

That doesn't change the fact that GTX580 will be faster than HD5970, most probably. Which is what has been said. Don't start a Ati vs Nvidia argument, because that's what it will look like. It's not fair to compare OCed vs stock, but no one was doing that. GTX580 is not a OCed GTX480 it's a different chip and a different card (so much more than HD4890) which is going to carry a 772 Mhz stock clock. The point is, if a 480 SP part at 750 Mhz is so close to the HD5970, a part with 7% more shaders, 110% more TMU and 5% higher clock and some tweaks here and there is certainly going to beat it. Or most probably anyway.

Good! I'm all for it. Nvidia has had plenty of time to get out the goods, bring it.

Once again, we should quit speculating and just wait for W1zzard and other reviewers to post their upcoming results. All this AMD/NVidia fighting is just getting out of hand lately. It's almost getting to a point that I do not want to even see the forums anymore due to so so is 1% better than this ... Blah Blah Blah. My OC card is better then yours. Blah Blah. Just watch the reviews, buy what you want and be done with it folks - quit BITCHING!

i cant imagine what these 580's in SLI will do. We all know its going to be what the original 480 was supposed to be, and the current 480 is close to a 5970. We also must remeber that ATI or AMD still has high end cards to come out at least on paper, maybe they are waiting for the 580 release to paper launch their 69xx series. It still a shame i wont be able to get one of these,i think they will be great

I expect the GTX 580 to be on par with the 5970 in performance, but better for DX11 games and more importantly it's only one GPU whereas the 5970 depends on good CF scaling.

and it doesn't change the fact that we don't know anything about GTX 580 performance, so any argument who will be faster is fail because we don't know anything yet

checking W1z' latest reviews the gtx480 is trailing the 5970 by 10% overall and the 580 is supposed to be 20% faster than the 480 so logic would dictate that the 580 would be faster than the 5970.

just like when before bart was launched everyone was, expecting it to have 4D architecure but in the end its just still modified cayman core with upped in the tess and shader efficiency

Plus the 699x series will be just around the corner ... like I said before ... the cycle never ends. This is why I wait 3 to 4 years before upgrading. It's just not worth the cost.

It seems you're both confusing the single GPU card HD 6970 with the dual GPU card HD 6990.

Plus the 699x series will be just around the corner ... like I said before ... the cycle never ends. This is why I wait 3 to 4 years before upgrading. It's just not worth the cost.

You seem to be confusing a dual GPU card with a single GPU card.

The discussion here is about a single GPU card: though you may compare it to dual GPU cards of previous generation, comparing it to dual GPU cards of the same generation seems ridiculous IMO, in the sense that it's obviously going to lose to the dual GPU card regardless of by how much (as long as the dual GPU card has the proper scaling in whatever is being tested).
