Following the launch of its GeForce GTX 660 series graphics processors, NVIDIA is likely to turn its attention to the sub-$200 market, particularly in the crucial back-to-school shopping season, with the launch of the new GeForce GTX 650 graphics processor. The new chip will help the company capture a key sub-$200 price-point, and replace the GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

According to a DonanimHaber report, the GeForce GTX 650 will be based on the new 28 nm GK107 ASIC, which is derived from the GeForce Kepler architecture. The chip will pack 384 CUDA cores, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, which holds 1 GB of memory. The same report pin-points the launch date to 17th September.

Would be interesting to see how this compares to 560Ti, 6870. And maybe the SLI scaling performance.

oh dear, its a GT 640 with GDDR5 mem as feared.. performance might compete only with the 550Ti or just close to 560SE

Will it compete the HD 7850 or beat it

It looks like nvidia has no plans to release a new chip anytime soon. Even the 660 Ti is based on GK104.

honestly i've been expecting nvidia doesn't have GK106 at all. if the rumor about the card will only consume 70w is true then this card will go up against 7750. looks like 7800 series will compete against other GK104 variant

    Trash.

    If 660 Ti -> 660, and 660 -> 650, now we're talking! And a win for naming conventions.

Just as I thought. Unfortunately no GK106 and the GK107 is very weak. 560SE/7770/6850 will smoke this part regardless that it will use GDDR5. The 7750 is 40% over the DDR3 part.

In other words the same fate that befuddled the GF106, that they sold as an OEM with super low clocks just to keep it under 75W.

Yea, the GK107 part on DDR5 is looking to barely break what will be AMD $75 offering, while not class to a 7770 that easily found right now for $125, it's the GTS450 all over again! Given a GT640 was a $100 part can Nvidia bring this for $140, that would make as notable as the GTS 450 when it tried to break the "Juniper" twins... Same old song and dance!

And I would think if you wanted to get hooked up to that all to "crucial back-to-school shopping season" a September 17th launch date is... like tardy? Nay, no more like having to petition the class to get in!

keppler with 384 cuda cores and 128 bit mem, it's only half of 560ti powerhouse. well,, i guess this is only on par with 550ti.

Absolutely ridiculous product spreading yet again by nvidia, you have this piece of shit (probably selling for 150uk notes) then a gtx 660 which no doubt is more then a slight step up(but at 250 notes) then the 660TI(at plus300 notes) and an alleged two other 660 variants, nameing wise nvidia are the absolute bigest ballbags in the industry, im presently after a 4-560 and in those gens the shader count varies so much as does the price that an idiot could easily get robbed of performance or money on a purchase.

I managed to find some benchmarks with the 660M (Asus lappy) which is basically the same GK107 that's gonna be used in this 650 (better name it GTS cause GTX is a joke) with DDR5 maybe lower clocks. Here's metro:

    Metro 2033
    Resolution Settings Value
    1920x1080 DirectX 11 / very high, AAA, 4xAF 12 fps

    review here:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-G55VW-S1020V-Notebook.74851.0.html

and here's metro almost same settings but a little higher res with mid-low end cards:

How sub $200 market mean $130 to you? gt 640 ddr3 is already $110 so that's just wishfull thinking on your part.

Have you read the specs of this card?
Do you know what is the competition of this card?
Do you know that the 110$ GT640 sports the same chip?
Do you think NVidia are insane to ask more for a card that will perform worse than anything that's on the market at around 130$?

If by some magic trick this card will come close to the 7770 which right now stands at around 120 after rebate I still don't expect it to be more than 130-50$

They were insane enough to ask $110 for gt 640 when you could buy much faster 7750 for the same amount of money ... so yeah i think they are crazy and/or they think we are stupid or something.

Pretty weak specs... almost seems like cards in this performance segment are more expensive performance/$ than faster cards.

Its like they want you to pay a premium to have the slowest possible card of this generation.

Nvidia is not always logical on their pricing. Just look at the GT640. Sub $200 usually means around $190. Otherwise it would be sub $180 pricing. We are referring to before rebate pricing. This will be a bit faster than the GT640 so it will cost more BEFORE rebates.

    Amen!
Green Marketing needs to bring products that compete... not more alphabet soup nomenclature.

And to think W1zzard was hard on the 7770 when it hit at $150. We all know ATI never holds-fast to any MSRP for anytime. However Nvidia goes kicking and screaming (and big rebates) to even appear competitive. Just as of lately GTX 550Ti, which MSRP’d for $160 (now in the market 18mo's) are pricing (for ones you’d really want) at $120-130 while working rebates of $20-30. Heck a Gigabyte 7770 OC that W1zzard reviewed in 5mo's ago and provided 25% more than a reference GTX550 has been as low as $90 –AR$20.
