I want to buy an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M GPU in the UK. Can anyone advise me on a good retailer?

I think that's a Laptop (Mobile) only GPU, not something you would have much luck trying to buy not already being soldered to a motherboard.

I would highly recommend looking at

http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/index.html <----- They are in Belgium

http://stores.ebay.com/upgrademonkey-worldwide?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 <------ This seller on eBay ships worldwide. I purchased my 920XM laptop processor from them several years ago, very helpful. Just contact them.

http://stores.ebay.com/Razors-Edge-by-Eurocom-Notebooks?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 <------------ This is Eurocom's eBay store. I purchased my 6970m from them around when I got my 920XM. Again just contact them and see what they have. Eurocom should also be able to provide with the heatsink necessary for your laptop if it is a Clevo variant.

Again just contact these different seller with what you are looking for.

It would also be helpful to list your laptop make and model. Sometimes laptop GPUs need to have a certain VBIOS on them to be recognized by the system.

You can list it here if you want but I again would highly recommend you list it for the sellers so they can advise you properly. Alot of them will not accept returns on these items due to erroneous installation. So make sure you double check everything before ordering.

****EDIT: Laptop GPUs can be at times upgradable. It depends on the make and model.****

Laptop gpu's are not upgradeable

some are some aren't. Depends on how the GPU is put into the laptop in the first place. Some of them are not soldered. But honestly I wouldn't try doing such a thing in a laptop anyways.

You cannot upgrade the GPU in the G710. This particular laptop has the GPU soldered to the motherboard. It's not MXM.

Thats a no go, not only that it probably wont fit, you would need a better cooling solution, but your power brick would not be able to deliver enough power.

I would look at replacing the CPU with an i5 or i7 version suitable for that socket.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, I greatly appreciate your advice. Basically I shall have to kick the cat and have a good think about where I go from here. Once again thanks.
