Maybe stocks running out on old cards.
Sounds like they still have to many 3050 chips in stock - if 4 years latter after GeForce 30 series was released - while the GeForce 40 series is around for more than awhile (already at 3rd tier of marketing gimmicks - with 3070 Super launched not so long ago) - they releas... still struggle to get rid of 3050 chips. Notebooks is one thing - but Desktop, wise don't remember 3050 selling that well. Still, it's a weird move. Even weirder than the 1660 branch.

No, this new 3050 6GB graphics card is using a different GPU, the GA107-235 which has a die size of 200mm2. The 3050 8GB card uses the GA106-150 that has a larger 276mm2 die size.

Realistically this isn't a card that's primarily a gaming product. It's probably intended for enterprise/commercial use where multiple displays need to be driven. Applications include things like IT/control room displays, stock traders, commercial signage, maybe multiple video streams, other 2D stuff like that.

While this GPU still has RT cores, it was probably cheap for Nvidia to just spin out a smaller die with all the components (CUDA, Tensor, RT) than try to rip out the RT transistors.

Remember that the 3050 release was heavily influenced by the combination factors of the cryptomining mania, massive GPU shortages and silly scalping. There were a handful of $249 models but they vanished almost immediately and most AIB partners focused on selling "OC"-ed $329 models which is too much for this level.

This GPU is being fabricated on Samsung's 8nm node which by now is very mature and yields should be pretty impressive.

From the design of the card, it looks to me like it's replacing the popular 1650. Even I had one of those. It's 30% faster, which is a nice jump.

The 3060 6GB is way too expensive and there are much cheaper, smaller SSHH, lower wattage GPUs to fit the display adapter use case. Like a 1030 for $65.

This is a very low end gaming GPU and it works fine for that. Nobody's buying a slot-powered GPU and then a raft of current $60 games as that's a horrible use of money. However someone could be playing $10-20 AAA games from 3-6 years ago and current e-sports on Med-High settings at 1080p/60 with little issue. But even there, the problem is still the price.

This card is a sad joke. Sure it is the fastest slot powered card, but that is very artificial. The RTX 4060 could have been downclocked slightly and made a one slot card also, with almost no performance loss.

Try it, buy an RTX 4060 and limit it to 75W and voila you have the RTX 4050 that should have released already.

in fact I wish a third party would power limit and release a slot powered RTX 4060, but I guess that would tick N

Just like nvidia AIB also want to milk the market. 4050 will come later but they rather those having 1650 to buy 3050 first and then make another upgrade later with 4050.

See the post just above yours. That's why. ;)

All the rest of the cards have no reason to exist. And personally, I'd still much rather pay up for a 4060 low profile than get a 6 GB card in 2024.

There's a lot of disbelieve here, especially that it's going to sell like hotcakes. Which I can understand. This card is not for us.
The best scenario for this card though, goes like this.
You're a parent of a kid that wants to be gaming with his friends, but you don't have the money.
So you get an old office PC for nothing. All you need is a reasonable graphics card that uses slot power only.
Buy the one game that you're friends have, turn on DLSS and play with low settings and voila.

I guess its aight that nvidia has something in this price bracket, but what bugs me the most is the name. Its like nvidia doesn't want to put any of their cards any lower than the 50 class anymore.

We used to have cards like the gt 710 or the gt 1030. And if 40 series is anything to go off, maybe the 50 class will be a thing of the past too.

Which is a shame because I would have accepted this card as an rt 3030 or 3040. Clearly nvidia didn't learn their lesson with 12 vs 16GB 4080, they just realized they can only get away with shenanigans like that if its on the low end where people aren't paying as much attention. For shame.

The 3050 6GB has an extra display connector (DisplayPort). The 1030 typically has one HDMI and one DVI connector. The latter card only has 2GB of VRAM.

Plus, the 3050 will get years of additional GeForce driver support as a previous generation Ampere card. That would be a key point for enterprise customers. I have a Radeon RX 550 card (Lexa Pro architecture) and even that has been put out to pasture on the extended support driver branch.

The 1030 is based on Pascal architecture (two generations older) and I'm not sure if it is still in production. There might be a couple of cards in retailer inventories but it's not the thing a corporate purchasing agent can place an order for. For sure Nvidia stopped marketing the 1030 a while ago. My guess is Pascal architecture support will be discontinued in the not too distant future, probably within a year. Sure, a Pascal GPU card can function well in driving one or two commercial displays but it isn't going to enjoy active driver updates for much longer.

And the TPU review shows how poorly the 3050 6GB fairs as a gaming GPU. The only positive is its performance-per-watt metric. Pretty much everything else about it makes it a poor choice (compared to the competition at this tier) for gaming. Like pretty much all PC hardware review sites, TPU does not assess the value of these components for commercial/business workloads and usage cases, like stock trader display.

Overpriced by a mile.

CS2 gave my friend an itch to frag again, but the old GTX 670 couldn't do it. So I found him a used GTX 1060 6GB for $66 USD... this RTX 3050 is just 3% faster at CS2 amd cost almost 3x more.

Don't buy a new graphics cards, unless you want to pay for the bleeding edge.
DLSS add more performance.
so its better than 1060 because that.

3050 6GB can be OK for 1080p 60fps gaming using DLSS and med settings.

but still, its expensive.

its fun when ppls who realy dont know fact, speak like they know all the facts, hapens all the time..

Rtx3050 sold more than any AMD dGPU

First they released the GT 1030 DDR4, then GTX 1630 and now this beast. The only good thing about this joke of a graphics card is that it doesn't require additional power.

No one sane is exactly going to play Alan Wake on this, mate. What counts is the performance gulf, and like it's been debated in the thread before: it's basically a laptop 3050M "refresh" on a desktop PCB. Solid entry level card, if you ask of me.

DLSS is game dependent, not just in support, but the question of: Are the visual artifacts created by DLSS more disturbing than lower FPS of running native?

I would only consider DLSS "Quality". And when that's turned on with this 3050 6GB, it still loses to Radeon 6600 and even RTX 2060 with both of them running native resolution.

Both of which have roughly twice the power budget of this card. RX 6600's TGP is 132 W, almost 100% higher.

It is a niche product. I can give it a lot of leeway due to that, although we should be seeing Ada on this segment already. Nvidia probably has an overstock of GA107 that they've ordered for laptop manufacturers though, given how long the 3050 and its numerous variants have been shipping on laptops... my 2021 laptop already had it, and 2023 and even some 2024 laptops still use it.

I think it has its niche... for small form factor pcs on limited power budgets, perhaps without a pcie connector, and I think thats fine.

What I don't like is the name. This at the very least should have been the 3040. When you take away 25% of the memory, 25% of the bandwidth and 10% of the cores... Making the 8gb variant in total 35% faster... is it not fair to say the 6gb variant is no longer a 3050? How is this any different than the whole 12vs16GB 4080 situation, other than, in this category, less people are paying attention?

Just seems like its taking advantage of people who don't keep up to date on tech news.

Amazon Lol... its not whole world u know.

Nvidia got over 80% dGPU markets, and thats F Huge
Total Gtx3050 sold amount is higher than any AMD models. and thats the fact.

Nvidia is top dog +80% on dGpu markets, so there is not much u can do or tell. Fact is fact.
Nvidia is top dog because it's the default option for prebuilts and that AMD GPU's in laptops are neigh unobtanium. Things get a lot murkier when we're talking about dedicated GPU sales.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I feel like you're missing his point.

That low profile 4060 is not slot powered though, it requires one 8-in PCIE connector

Still though, RTX A2000 is slot powered and is faster than 3050 6GB

Professional GPUs incur a massive cost overhead. You could even extend as far as the RTX 4000 Ada Generation SFF if you want a 70 watt RTX 4070 Ti(!) with even more VRAM (20 GB over a 160 bit interface), except that card actually costs $1250 (actual street price around $1500). It's about ~2x faster than the A2000.
