Game companies need to grow thick skin and start creating games using 100x more powerful PC technology. None of this console port nonesense.

I don't know of any company that wants to put more work and money into their product to sell it to a smaller consumer base.

My point is BF3 looks better than MW3. MW3 if you look carefully looks sort of cartoonish.

The Xbox 360's GPU is kinda like a hybrid of X1900 card and a HD 2xxx card. DX9+ Capability with DX10 like Unified shader architecture, and it has 48 of em streaming processors. Th X360 actually had the first consumer hardware that has the unified shader architecture.

exact consoles holding back the evolution of video games because the hardware remains the same...

If I remember correctly the graphics card of the PS3 or xbox360 is comparable to the GTX 470 ? Or worse ... 9800 GTX

GTX470?

Calm yourself down there!

The XBox 360 runs essentially of an ATI HD 2900.

The PS3 runs dual core Nvidia 7800 GTXs.

As has been pointed out, all this talk of PC gaming catching up with consoles is a bit facetious as a very large chunk of those billions in revenue are coming from pocket games and the likes of Farmville, which is not what we would consider as prime time high end gaming.

Gaming, as most of us here would define it, is dominated by consoles and regardless of how old and crappy they become before a next gen of consoles is released, they are always going to be the choice gaming platform of a majority of mainstream gamers who have neither the money, the time, the technical know-how or interest to have a powerful up to date gaming PC.

Even for titles which have really flown a flag for PC gaming such as BF3, have only had around 16% of thier reported sales on the PC platform. Whilst it is true that the downloaded sales are not reported in those figures I do know that legally downloaded copies of games account normally for no more than 25% of any given titles total sales. So again, the argument that whilst retail PC sales are dying the online sales are booming doesnt really hold water.

I think there is a kind of frustration coming from many PC gamers that their hobby/interest is being ignored or at least becoming less relevant and so we look to the clouds for signs that the mainstream tide is about to turn again in 'our favour', making our hobby somehow more relevant and to be aspired towards......but the truth is, that we are regularly spending hundreds if not thousands of pounds in the most part to play a selection of console games with higher res textures and a layer or two of eye candy quickly lashed over the end product a month or so before the release date. For the time being, the fact that the consoles games all run at sub 30 frames per second (with lots of screen tearing), means that I can justify the expense and time I put into my hobby (with the smooth frame rates and graphical enhancements rendering the rough and raw console versions as wholly unacceptable)....but come the next generation of consoles when a solid 60 FPS and v-sync is a minimal industry standard (which is reported to be the case with the next gen consoles), then I will gladly jump off the wagon of tech and upgrade obsession.

Big business interests are in the process of transferring an entertainment phenomenon which had its roots on the PC platform, to a format with mass accessibility which they can ultimately control and profit hugely from. This is simply the way things are progressing and the gaming industry is only going to head further in this direction, and by that I mean much further in this direction.

Honestly its content delivery. The fact is simple. customers game on consoles more then Pc's why? because they are easy their are 2 wires and it does everything you want. Companies see this. Erocker is right they simply wont spend the $$ on it. everything will slowly become a console port. How can they fix this?

content delivery. Making non consol ports and Pc native games isnt the answer. It will only be availible to the few because a game like that will only run correctly on good machines. We all know this we all remember crysis. amazing beautiful game built with technologies before hardware. Those who screamed "that was dumb crytek my poc cant run it!!" are consol players. people who have no respect or no imagination. That said what would pick PC gaming up is if the big boys.

Steam
Direct2Drive

etc started buying out the shitty small content delivery systems and they themselves making the interface easier would draw in more customers.

No one likes 25min credit card input time. its boring tedious and i dont want to use 5 security questions. I cant even remember that. The reason consol gaming is so popular is simply because it is easy. If they made it as easy on the PC people would rather sit in their PC chair then next to grandma trying to explain to her what L4D is.

No, consoles are stronger than ever. That's reality. I was at Gamestop for the Skyrim release and they had three lines. One for PC which consisted 8 people including myself. One for Ps3 which had about 20 people and the Xbox360 crowd which went from the counter to the back of the store and outside. Doesn't mean there isn't a maket for high end GPU's. There's just a much bigger market for consoles. Of course Nvidia is going to blow smoke like this since they've been cut out from hardware for any of the new consoles coming out in the future. Where's this reality they speak of? Cool story Nvidia.

I don't know if it's been said in response to you yet. But PC gaming surpassing console gaming has nothing to do with Gamestop. It has to do with digital distribution. I know 10 people who bought Skyrim for PC, one of them bought it at a store, the rest just got it on Steam. Even BF3, I know one who got it for PC at Gamestop, about 8 that got it on Origin. PC gaming has been revitalized because of digital distribution, if PC gaming was left to the likes of Gamestop, it would have died.

I personally use to torrent most of my PC games, prices were too high, stores didn't have lots of the games I wanted. I maybe owned 5 PC games ever, then I got Steam. I now have over 200 titles, and most people I am friends with are on the same trend.

 Steam deals saved my life.... ok maybe not, but I just can't resist a sale. Whats really crazy is I only started using Steam about 2 years ago, so averaging about 125 new games a year, though it will slow down as I have almost every game I ever wanted now.

although the gpu clock is at the 7800gtx 512mb level on the RSX (550MHZ) compared to the 256MB's 450MHZ the memory gimp is more than enough to complely wipe out that bonus and put the RSX far behind its desktop counterpart.

due to the fact that the xbox 360 runs an underclocked X1900XT and the PS3 is a gimped 7800GTX the 360 has better graphics than the PS3. (seeing as by default the 7800GTX 256MB loses to the X1900XT 512MB)

There is no way.

PC will outsell consoles.

Impossible.

(Thinks posters are smoking something :slap:)

PC's have never had enough player base @ ANY AGE that can compete with consoles in sales.

Its a fact.

4 years by now, EXPECT MORE CONSOLES SALES ALSO. Everybody has some sort of gaming platform period.

Go to a Community College, a High school, even the dam super market. Ask them if they game on PC, and if your lucky maybe 5% say yes seriously (not facebook minigames.) The rest have consoles guaranteed.

Even my PASTOR has a 360. My teachers have ps3/360/Wii's at home.

The world is the player-base of consoles, and if there are MORE BABY'S COMING, more Games are going to be sold on those platforms.

Sad but true, and NO WAY TO ARGUE about it, No way to justify people jumping on PC's with G cards and true ambition, because personally people that accept that point of view, stay with that point of view.

Fixed that for you.

I actually agree, but there has to be something up with the ps3, im sure about it. The CPU power probably help it kick in a bit better then the 360.
Why I believe so?
PS3, has around 30-40 true 1920X1080 pixel games, that personally look really good (I have ps3, Hdmi, 1080p LCD to tell)
Xbox 360, has less then 8-6 1920x1080 pixel games, that is personally a FAIL.
There are resolutions like 568p on the xbox 360
and ps3 can out perform the 360 with the same game @ 640-720p easily.
I have had both.

i do have both, and the ps3's graphics are better when coded properly.
ps3 has the cell processor, which when coded for properly allows graphics like those on uncharted - which 360 can't match with it's gpu.

problem is only exclusives code for it. everyone else codes for the standard gpu (for the same reason they code for console and not pc), and so many games don't really use the benefit ps3 has to offer.

There is no way.

PC will outsell consoles.
Impossible. [B/]

News flash they already do. unit sales of consoles are nowhere near unit sales of PC's, in fact I'd be shocked if they were even close to 1/10th. Also the number of games sold for the PC platform is rising. Sure unit sales of games is still in consoles favor but ever since the console port has existed pc gaming has been on the rise. (as much as people hate the console port I'm not sure how pc gaming would fare without it). And as i said before as consoles grow to mirror PC functions, the graphics and controls on those ports will get better and better.

PC's have never had enough player base @ ANY AGE that can compete with consoles in sales.

Its a fact.

um yeah a 65/35 split (console/PC)is far more than competing. AMD would kill for those kind of numbers. This is especially true since we're up from 90/10 in the early 90's.

4 years by now, EXPECT MORE CONSOLES SALES ALSO. Everybody has some sort of gaming platform period.

brilliant in 4 years the new consoles will have been out for a year at least and will have bolstered sales. The numbers may be up, but watch the next 2 years as people get tired of old graphics on consoles with PC's getting better and better graphics while xbox360 users are stuck at 2005 graphics. the numbers will swing in pc gamings favor for a tick and then back to consoles after launch. It's a cycle, it's nothing new and as I said before it's not goign to matter. Consoles are becoming more and more functional ever gen. The enxt gen will look far more like a media center pc than a single function gaming machine.
