So i was having look at HotUKDeals and i spotted a OCZ ARC 100 120GB for £45 and 240GB for £65 from currys. Which at this moment out of Amazon and Scan and Ebuyer the cheapest 240GB available at this point of time.
Just wondering if this SSD is a okay entry into SSD as i am looking into rebuilding my desktop and considering picking this up.

The ARC 100 has the lowest price, but there are other considerations - like OCZs miserable track record with reliability problems. They are made by Toshiba now since their January 2014 buyout of OCZ, but it's too soon to know if "the curse is broken". Also check out Crucial MX100 and Samsung 850 Evo, both considered more reliable. The reason the OCZ drive is cheapest is because of their history of dead drives, a reputation that's hard to put behind them.

Thanks for reply Hood,i've done a bit more research and appears the ARC 100 are using Toshiba NAND flash memory. Now if we was looking at OCZ from its original price(based on scan) then the Crucial MX100 is cheaper but for £65 makes it lot cheaper than both drives. Would it be worth taking the risk or wait until January sales?

Seems a reasonable drive to me. It's not quite mx100 standards but it comes very close. For that price I'd consider it, but the 2 year warranty is a little meh for my tastes. Certainly for a standard consumer it would be a perfect drive for general windows and software use. You'd see slower than average installation and game load times than other SSDs, but general computer use would be quite snappy.

I need a cheap and cheerful SSD for my partners laptop, might grab one of these if the mx100 256 doesn't go lower than £70

I am thinking of using this SSD for my new desktop build as the main OS, programs i'll be mainly using are android studios/eclipse,microsoft office and all my games be stored on normal HDD.
Installation and boot time would still be faster than normal HDD which in my opinion is still good.

OCZ just issues a challenge for people to break the arc 100s so I reckon they've had a lot of quality assurance poured into them. I'll buy one when I get home. I store all my games on the HDD anyway, and if you're just looking for good general performance, the arcs have a good IOPS rating on the 240GB drives. I reckon they'd do quite nicely.
