Odd cooling problems

So I put an 80mm fan on the side of my case to push air in. I have no other intake fans. But when I checked my temps after, my cpu went up a few degrees! I figured it would lower it, but i'm at a loss. Am I missing something?

How many exhaust fans do you have?? Just 1?? If so, you would be better moving that 80mm to the back for exhaust and getting another 80mm to push air in. Negative pressure is better than equal pressure.

I have a very small case and only room for one fan in the back. What if i had the side fan pushing air out? I'm guessing that would take away needed air for the cpu though.

my case has positive pressure! the whole positive - negative thing confuses me!

positive pressure = more fans blowing in, negative pressure = more fans blowing out.

I'm still confused to why my temps went up though..

The intake fan was probably circulating warm air. I would go for an 80mm exhaust in the back (2 or more) and very few intake fans. The cpu will always have air, unless your case is in space. :laugh:

oh, hmm, well what is ideal then? more positive than negative? or equal?

i would think equal would be since it can circulate the same about of air continually

i think equal is best because it can bring in the same amount of fresh air as it can exhaust hot air. the point im trying to make is, negative pressure, not enough fresh air, positive pressure is not enough air being exhausted. the problem pressure is that it's hard to balance because of the psu fan....well that's my opinion anyways.

Adding a fan does not always mean better temperatures.

If you saw an increase, you probably are only disrupting an old hot spot and recycling some of the old warm air.

2 well places fans > 4 poorly places fans.

Just adding a fan means nothing. You have to take into account the objects in the way, and what air the fan will be moving in correlation to the other fans.
Post a picture with fan ratings and I bet I could find the problem

but, i have an xclio a380 with 2 x 25cm in and 1 x 120 out the 25 blow about 110cfm in and the 120 sucks about 79cfm out. I also have a 120 on my cooler blowing in the same direction as the out 120.

how about the psu? you're pressure might be about 2:1 (intake:exhaust). have you tried reversing one 25 cm, and putting the 120 mm as an intake.

the psu has a 120 sucking out, idk what cfm it has.

and yes, i have it done what you said, it didn't really do anything.......i am trying to get optimal cooling

Hmm I turned the side fan around so it blows air out and the temps went down..Never would have guessed that would work better but w/e. :rockout:
