    SOLVED

So this may just be entirely me, but today i went over to my aunt's and her lil boy(my lil cous) wants to play some simple on it. This system is a compaq with intel integrated.

I for the life of me cannot figure out how to access which onboard intel graphics she does have. I know one intel igp to the next doesn't differ too greatly in performance, but still i prefer to know the specifics of the system i'm working with. With any other OEM system i've used that had vista or xp or older i could manage to find access to things.

With windows 7 however, everything is so motherloving hidden, that the experienced user needs a rainbows to dig through all the unicorns to get what they need. I even tried to follow instructions on intel's webpage to get specifics and couldn't :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Or try to access the Intel Control Panel and see if it mentions it there. Alternatively, post the model number of the computer and someone can look it up for you if no software gets what you need.

    Nice edit, erocker

it the runs the games anyways.

Galactic civilization 2 and medieval:total war. great games, but not demanding. I still expected this integrated to lag even with no AA.

its an intel i945g btw. thanks...thou i'm more dissapointed that i'd forgotten about gpu-z..shame

Then it should be the good old GMA900/950 i had some years ago with a P4. It was decent for that age. There is a GMABooster software to boost its performances if needed.

i945G = GMA 950, the lowest grade Intel IGP to support Aero. Must've been on clearance or something, as that IGP has been around for like 5-6 years. My laptop from early 2008 (designed mid-2007) had an Intel 965 chipset (which if it had an IGP would be an Intel X3100).

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information. Or Start -> type "system" and choose from there. :)

It is the oldest supporting Aero and it was used for the first gen. Atoms too so it was phased out only a year ago and many prebuilts until 2008 were based on these chipset so it's not a big surprise as I've seen very few with x3100 apart from laptops.

yea i had one of those in my acer aspire 3680. problem with that chip is that it does the shaders via software so it really depends on the cpu for performance.

People really don't read...it's my aunt's, not mine. just wanted some quick simple games to work. They do so it's all good...and apart from that do you really think i hadn't already thought about that. Course then again i did forget about GPU-Z

I did look at that real quick, but its for the mobile versions of the chipset, not the desktop. mobile igp runs at 133/166mhz, while desktop runs at 400mhz.
