    The way I see it, if AMD will be using the 6900 series for the Caymans, then they will probably return to the 'X2' moniker of the 3000 and 4000 series which should leave the names '6950 and 6970' for its single GPU cards.

    If all they did was split the Dispatch Processor and now they have 2 and got the same performance with only 3/4 the shaders that's a bunch of crap!

    That means if they had done Cypress with twin Dispatch Processors then it would have been able (at the very least) match the GTX 470 (maybe 480 too?). :shadedshu

    Anyone have slide 19 to post up?

    well imo amd is smart to dio that with the 5XXX and 6XXX cards. they will make double now that they fully unlocked cypress.charge for newer cards at higher pricess, and keep supply low so the demand is high, just like cypress launch. all they did was launch 3/4 of what cypress was capable of and waited for nvidia to show what fermi could do, not they are fully letting cypress match its potential. it will be about a year or so then they will launch new cores and do the same thing. thats how amd has almost always done it.

    Tiger Direct. But looking at Amazon it was priced at $269.99.

    Amazon at $274.99.

    I'm still looking for MSRP though. But remember, demand can dictate price. So we will see...

    I think no matter what, I'm placing an order for one from XFX the moment they appear. A 6870 that is.

    Does anyone know what Surface Format Optimization is? It's suppose to be in Cat 10.10 beta but I've not read any one posting this with a 5870.

    I'm with you but because I'm wanting to wait for the the entire "new architecture" to show up first.

    The woes of unemployment...once something new comes up we can only *sigh* and dream about the one day we can actually afford something. :toast:

    What is the expected selling price for Cayman XT & Cayman Pro (6950 & 6970) GPUs? I am looking for the best GPU that I can get for my gaming rig but I am not willing to pay anything more than $425.

    AMD claiming the 6850 is 40% faster than the 768MB 460 in BC2. Now I'm interested, but that's about what they need if it's going to cost $200-220 since the 460 can be had for as little as $140 with rebates.

    The source is amd, so I'd guess a more realistic result would be if you just divide the increase by half :D
    The median is around 25-30% in those results, so my guess is about 12-15% higher performance than the 460

    ECH linked Tigerdirect and Amazon yesterday. One was $274, the other was $269, if I remember correctly.

    Wow the more PR slides I see more dissapointed that I am with AMD on this release. First the PR spin of claiming an improvement on perf/die area where it doesn't exist, using HD6870 and HD5850 to fake it out and now these. Despite the improvement on tesselation they cannot compete with Nvidia cards, so they release this BS. Yes AMD, certainly the rasterizer can be a bottleneck that's why Nvidia put 4 of them in Fermi. :shadedshu

    But obviously instead of doing something like adding rasterizers or STFU, they have to try to limit the ammount of tesselation in games, so that the weakness of their architecture in regards to tesselation is not exposed. And they are doing it in a pathetic way at that. I mean, ideally you want 16 pixels/polygon? What garbage is that?

    Let's see:

    1920 x 1200 = 2304000 pixel -> 2304000 pixel / 16 pixel/poly = 144000 poly
    1680 x 1050 = 1764000 pixel -> 1764000/16 = 110250 poly

    110k-144k polygons? That's the limit they are suggesting?

    Nearly all modern games already use 500k - 1 million polys, without ANY tesselation. :shadedshu

    Crysis has around 1-2 million. Nanosuit model alone is 60k poly.
    GOW2 and ME2 characters are 15k-30k each...

    Even moving to the "innefficient" 1 pixel/poly we are talking about 1.76-2.3 million polys, so AMD is saying that games using tesselation shouldn't really surpass the polycount of 3+ years old games. Wonderful AMD, you know what? Nvidia did envision that bottleneck and did something to fix it on their architecture, so either do something or STFU. :banghead:

    They put the cards up on Amazon not to long ago, but they took the pages down.

    The link is still on Google though:
