just like the 5770 was for 4870/4890 owners yet a lot of people "upgraded" to them.

Out of stock already as a Super Special, you can still get one on the site but more expensive now...... these things are moving fast!

Yeah just imagine if it keeps to form of how ATI cards usually run. These score P27k in vantage in xfire that means one 6970 should run about that (or a little less considering these cards replace the 6830's/5830's of the world) Probably around 24K as we saw earlier could be very correct.

I will be picking up two or three of the 6950's or 6970's also :)

well while Barts is the name successor to the 5800 series, spiritually I feel that the 6950/6970 are the tru replacements for the 5850 and 5870. like you say it's a bit of a sidegrade to flog a 5800 for a Barts card, unless you can do it for free.

still I had a reference 5850 that could go beyond 1000 core with a little extra volts, even a 6870 OC could have a hard time beating that.

Guys do you think this HD6800 series is overkill for a 1440x900 resolution? Or should I wait for the "new" HD6770? Thanks.

I wanted to add more to this so that you get an understanding as to why the change in CCC was made.
    Source

It appears not only is the default from High Quality to Quality but also their maybe more options for Cat A.I. Furthermore, it also seems that the improved AF, etc for IQ was indeed a hardware limitation in 5000 series based on this response. Although CCC's optimization panel is now unified across all cards he clearly indicates better IQ on the Barts from Cypress.

    ---------------------------------

According to the chart it won't be called the 6770 it will still be called the 5770. I suggest that you get a 6850 if you don't plan on upgrading the monitor. If you do plan on upgrading the monitor get a 6870.

depends on what games you play? but because this card is the new 6830/5830 yes it might be a little. But if you plan on being future proof awhile I would say no.

Also since the prices are so reasonable on these cards I would say Yes get a 6850/6870 if you wait for the 6770 (which is just going to be a rereleased 5770) I would say that would be just a waist of money IMO!

    6900 series speculation

Ok, I think it's safe to no start speculating on the 6900 series. I found this chart interesting:

    "Scalability and off-chip buffering"
Also they are calling it a generation of it's own. That's new and IMO indicative of how powerful this card is :D.

    ------------------------

Oh, almost forgot, MLAA will be a game changer. I think it will be released for Cat 10.12.

IMO dont ever play the "future proof" game with a video card. Why? Because in 6 months time there will be a faster, cheaper, lower power consumption card, that will blow away your "future proof investment".

However, if your 4770 isnt quite cutting the mustard, then a 5850 or GTX460 would fix your issues.

    Yeah, agree with 'Bonkers.'

It's only future proof if you have terminal cancer.

On the Morphological AA, it'll be a game changer if it's visibly as good as MSAA or CSAA or US of A or NWA.

But i'm waiting for arguements to appear regarding it just being lazy processing to fix something AMD have an issue with.

But in my humble and lowly opinion, if Cayman is the unexpected jump on the 58xx series that this was for the 57xx series then that would be astonishing. The 6870 (according to TPU performance summary) is 1.57 times better than the 5770. If the 6970 is the same above 5870, it'll be silly.

    It would make Antilles;
    (a) unbearably powerful
    (b) and probably very planet devouring.

    THIS IS TOTALY CRAZY
this thing makes the HD6870 way faster comp. GTX470 in terms of MAA VS 4XAA

I think 6850 is the most feasible option for me. And it's good to know it will give a nice boost on my gaming vs my 4770 @ 1440x900. Thanks.

    I have SC2, MW2, RE5, DA Origins, L4D, L4D2 and my fav Dirt2. I'm still DL-ing some current games though:D

    Nice another vote for 6850/6870:toast:

    Thanks.

I'm planning to upgrade my current OS, Windows XP to Windows 7. I want to try my games on DX10 or DX11. Upon reading reviews after reviews, I think my 4770 will crawl even on relatively low resolution (1440x900) at DX10/11. I haven't tried NVIDIA cards yet and will not consider them for the near future, the review charts speak for themselves.:respect:

    Thanks.

    heh loved w1z's reviews :D
Barts performed admirably, although I kind of feel the 6850 deserves to be clocked at 800MHz core by default, to give it that extra edge over the GTX460 768mb.
I was surprisingly close with my guestimate here lol

unlikely to lose alot of value from now until the 6970 launches, and based on your current card the 6870 will be plenty fo a boost. so i say buy the 6870, keep the 4870 nearby, then when the 6970 comes out sell the 6870 for 10% less than you paid for it and get the 6970 with of course using the 4870 during the swapout time.

    Your not helping :p
But this is what i have been thinking, but if i get one i will have to get a couple more monitors like the one i have now (22" acer v223w) and to be honest i'm unsure how well a single 6870 will do at 5040x1050 although the monitors would go in a few months to be replaced with 3 27" @ 1920x1200 when i have enough cash spare and a 6970 :D

I'm just unsure if i would be better off waiting a little longer and just getting a 6970 and the 3 27" monitors, i want to upgrade so bad as i have been waiting since the 5870 came out for various reaons, thus why i was hoping someone would tell me to wait....... i have little self control :banghead:

Update, Cat 10.10a will also be released today and it should include MLAA. Cat 10.10 WHQL will not have MLAA. So keep that in mind. There is no known ETA for either at this time. And yes, 5000 series will also get it.

    Edit:
Here is a break down of some of the new features in CCC:

    Surface Format Optimizations
    Rage3d

    MLAA
    Tom's HW

    AnandTech

MLAA may not work in all games yet. Also, Fraps cannot photo capture it at this time. And, you want to have a high resolution as it tends to smooth out text making them less sharp in low resolution.

    AMD Eyespeed
    Rage3d

AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) technology

Furthermore, using AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) technology, users can easily unleash the massive parallel processing power of GPU for physics, artificial intelligence, stream computing and ray tracing calculations, and tackle demanding tasks like video transcoding with incredible speed. In addition to improved video image quality and playback for video formats like DivX and DivX Plus HD, GIGABYTE GV-R6800 Series also enable improved performance with applications like Microsoft® Office 2010, Internet Explorer 9, and Mozilla Firefox 4.

I believe it's a place where data goes of the main chip to be temporarily held in memory to be processed.

Though im not a huge expert, and im sure someone can explain it better.

Can anyone point me out what's the size of the new cards?

In centimeters if possible, thank you very much.
