The only thing I would really like to see is the games section given it's own heading and broken into groups (PC, Console, etc.). As it stands, the gaming section is the 5th most popular section from a post count standpoint.

Exactly.

Stuff which doesnt really fit in a section, and doesnt need to be in the latest posts.

But still has its place in TPU.

Oh and I agree with Kreji that the Games section needs sub-forumss, like Graphics now has AMD and NVIDIA

Ah I see. Maybe it could be re-labeled Tech Tomfoolery or something and restricted to tech related nonsense and leave the other forum for non tech-related stuff.

Thats what I have been trying to say.

We still need a Tech GN here. Maybe the rules can be more strict, if it is not entirely tech related it gets deleted, and the user is refered to Gn.net. Same as it would anywhere else on the forum. But you need somewhere you can start threads that really dont fit anywhere else.

I know this is a tech site but it's nice to talk about things other than tech, most sites have an Off-Topic forum which would be the equivalent of General Nonsense. All the forums I've been on have one, General Nonsense, Off-Topic or a Relax zone. I like it because you can post about your car, your job, things you did and so on.

You can still do that and much more, it's just situated a bit differently.

I'm still wondering why all the gripe. Just think of it as GN with sub-forums. It's not like it requires a dozen clicks to get there....

Once you register at GN, and set it to remember your login, clicking here will take you to your "relax-zone". TPU is giving you a much larger relax-zone than what most tech-sites would offer, for free, and without begging for user donations. This is "an offer you can't resist".

So it's just a click away once you register, and you hardly find you're on another site. Plus, all the familiar TPU e-faces.

Hi BTA!! (BTW, thanks for all the help you gave me doing news on GPU :toast:)

Anyway, I agree.
If you look at General Hardware, the top stickied post is "What CPU do you have?".
Seems like it is a pretty relaxed forum for the occasional non-specific technical post.
Let's say I had a question about memory for my camera. I'd just post it there as that would fall under "General Hardware".

You have to admit that the old GN was filled with a ton of crap. Funny stuff, but still crap. :D

The GN forum here isnt redundant. There is still tech related stuff you can use it for, that doesn't fit anywhere else. That was the description of the forum anyway.

All I see GN.net good for is threads which get closed here, like nudifty, sex, guns and crazy picture threads.

No, your Wrong..there is no nudity/sex allowed. Everything you guys talk about here can be converted there. This really is not a big deal. I agree with bta there is no need for it here anymore..if it's tech related post in the appropriate forum.

There are many people who are resistant to change. They get into a comfortable rut, and even if presented with a better solution don't like to have to do something new.
The same thing happened with GPU. There were many people who said they did not like having to go to another site and just wanted to camp on TPU.
I think with time, people will get used to the idea that the new GN is better and will migrate over there. It will take awhile, but it will happen.

There are many people who are resistant to change.

I expected this sort of a reaction from sections of the community. Drastic changes stimulate sharp reactions. It's a law of nature. Once you get used to the new order, you'll enjoy GN.net, and the website that sponsors it.

I did too with GPU. I thought that when people came to GPU from TPU and saw that there was more gaming news and discussion that they would migrate over, even if it was a little more work.
The reality, however, was different. There were still more posts on a daily basis in the game section of TPU than we would see in GPU.
If given the choice, people will take the easiest route, not neccesarily the best.
The fact that W1zz linked to the new GN from TPU will make a big difference.
I think that the old threads from GN should be merged into GN.net and be done with it.
There is no way to move forward if you are always catering to the holdouts.

Just my 2 cents.

I think they should be merged as well..but I think that's easier said than done.

Resistance to change has nothing to do with it. In my bookmarks I have around 10 sites that I visit every day, this one being one of them. I don't need more, this site doesn't need more mini sites. They just spread the users around instead on focusing them on this site. It's not like we've been discussing horrible things in GN that a whole new site was needed...
I found out you can still access the old GN, which is fine by me, if it stays this way...

The origanal cpt got closed and was unable to be reopened here. The only place for it was at GN just an example of something that did not work here at TPU.

You don't need a bookmark to GN.net either, use your TPU bookmark and click on General Nonsense in the forum index, you're taken to GN.net. This is not one bit more difficult than using the same bookmark to access the old GN forum.

Yeah but you have to login again don't you? I mean I see the new forum to be more trouble than it's worth...

Make it remember your login. Otherwise, it only takes 10~15 seconds. Big deal.
