no way in hell would I put a MK26 on a 290x, the vrms (passively cooled) get hot on Tahiti let alone Hawaii!
the bending/sagging of the card could lose die contact, you aren't able quage how tight/loose to screw it, its easy to over tighten. you have to buy a gpu brace, if you want to take the vrm sinks off, you could rip the vrm off..
youll lose warranty, and the application and potential to break something is huge!
I know the reviews are great, I haven't dealt with it in person but I did recommend it to a friend and he hated it! I literally had a second review from him and he's pretty good with tech!
a solution, AIO mod or put up with the leaf-blower until you decide what to do.
which could be save for W/C, buy an alternative cooling solution or send it back and get a 780ti
you have a right to refund within X days...
oh so a MK-26 passively cool VRM'S ??? hell my MK-26 had some heatsink for VRM and RAM bundled with, they still get the airflow of the fans no matter what ... (same as all aftermarket or non references or even reference cooler)
"potential to break something is huge" ... only if you don't know what you do, i used that MK-26 on a 7950/580/480/7870 no problem at all its simple and easy and pretty straightforward, the only one with some problems was my Zotac GTX 770 AMP! not enough contact on the die ... Nvidia's fault, not Prolimatech. They went from a IHS chip to a bare die since the MK-26 was compatible with the 680 but not with the 770, btw spring loaded non reference cooler are just as same as the MK-26 and overtighting the screw on that is impossible the thread of the screw is limited and you can't go past it , even thightened to the maximum i never cracked a die (talking of 7950/7870)
im not technically what i can call good with tech but i had no problem and i loved the MK-26 (i can't put the fault on the cooler when its the manufacturer of the GPU chip who fubar the thing)
for the later part i did not quote:
a AIO or doing a custom WC has the same "danger" as mounting a MK-26...
or wouldn't a pair of 770's outperform a 780/titan??
a single 770 can outperform a stock 780 so two of them should get a shot on 780ti and titan
also the "blower" from AMD is not so bad atm, well its not like the "luxury bling bling ultra awesome" Titan exclusive, OH wait no the 770/780/780ti got it too, aherm i mean the blower from Nvidia ...
