I need to know is it safe to leave the system working without a closed metal case? Not for the hardware, but for the user. For example lets say worst case scenario: someone crazy one comes to your place, while you away, and start touching the motherboard, video card, PSU, HDDs, randomly.. touching the cables.. everything exposed. Is there anyway he can get seriously hurt or start a fire from short circuit or something? Or is it completely safe for the idiot? Is the power output of PSU dangerous enough?

If you are afraid of an idiot coming into your home and touching your parts, you should have protection.

I mean, what is the worst an "idiot" could do?

Urinate on PC while running = PC fail
Pulling plugs wires, breaking fans = PC fail
Do much more worse things = PC fail.

I you plan on having your computer running while out of the house, I would put it in a case.

No, I wanna make sure that its safe for the surroundings and that's all. Lets say I don't care if the system gets broken. Just so it wont electrify people or start a fire. Also lets not include case of liquids contact. Just bare hard touch.

I don't think anyone will get killed or hurt from it. I would still have it in a case in case of rodents, bugs or just some idiot messing with it.

Are you worried about children messing with it? Thats about the only thing I could think of that would be that dangerous really. Some kids are really young or just dumb and might pour liquid in a case I guess.

W1zzard licks 9V batteries for fun....

Yeah, I wouldn't suggest running without a case if you have small kids, pets, or idiotic roommates.
