Hell ho (hello),

there is this thing that is known about SSDs needing to have 10<20% free space to keep full speed and lifespan...
...
and sometimes is also told that it's not needed since longtime...
... so we never know what to do !?!

//

What do i do with each of those ?:

SSD:
MX500 2to & 1to
BX500 500go
QVO 8to 870 MZ-77 (wtf, 15% of 8to !?)

NVMe:
970 EVO 2to MZ-V7S
KC3000 512go SKC3000S
FURY Renegade 500go SFYRS
Pioneer 2to APS-SE20G
Integral 128go
SN570 500go

\\

Please !!!!!!!

Modern SSDs do not need you to manually over-provision. Garbage collection has vastly improved as has NAND wear leveling to the point where it's mostly unnecessary.

you do nothing. you use your SSDs and if you're lucky enough your grandchildren will keep using your SSDs when you're already dust.

Recall that if you run below 1/3rd capacity for TLC (1/4 for QLC), the drive can run in SLC mode and have 10 times the life; great for a boot drive that may take a beating from the swap space.

So, that means the 15-20% are true !? In all cases...

... i boot on my 500 drive so it's barely more than 50go :p , but others drives are for games !!

That unused space is an asset and not at all wasted; it is extending the life of the SSD.

You would need 6TB free on an 8TB QLC SSD to run in full SLC mode, but as I mentioned above, that is probably justified only for the boot drive.

He is not understanding you switching modes (which BTW adds way to much complexity for such a simple question)

In short no. You DO NOT need to leave "space free" or "make small partitions" for SSDs anymore.

Thanks, i was worried,
especially i understood only when he told to keep 6 on 8  !!

So on a 8to that only has games files (for runing games) i can go until drive has 10-50go left and it's allright, good.

Just use your SSD's like any other drive, longevity is really not a problem. You paid for 8TB so use all 8TB.

I have a 120GB MLC SSD I got almost 10 years ago and I'm still using it right now. It has 32.3TB of writes which works out to filling it to 100% and wiping it over 269 times.
