Overclocking a GTX Titan X

Hi All,
I was reading online that if you overclock a GTX Titan X, or any GPU, you could see a increase in FPS and such.

My question is could I overclock my card safely? I am only using one card with air cooling. My case has hella fans and my gpu usually reaches 69 degrees when playing witcher 3 on max and idle its like 35-40ish degrees.

Can anyone post some of their recommended overclocking settings? I would love to try them but nothing to destroy my system lol.

OS - Windows 8
GPU - GTX TITAN X
Motherboard- ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU - Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W BX80646I74770K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics

I remember overclocking my GTX 780 and was all kinds of fail where my games would crash but no artifacts. And remember people, I am a noob so sorry if I sound dumb, but I really want to attempt this.

Thank you!

Noob with money it seems ;)

Download the overclocking utility called Afterburner. Open it, increase the core clock by 50Mhz, apply. Run some benchmarks (3Dmark, Unigine Heaven, Valley). Play some games. If no probs, try another 50Mhz. And so on.

You cannot break your card overclocking it this way. Even if you increase the voltage settings by what Nvidia allows you to, you can't break it.

There is a way to break it but I'm not even going there.

Ah I see lol.

Thanks for the reply. So do I only increase the core clock? What about mem, fan speed and all that jazz?

Core clock first. Then memory (the same way). The problem with Maxwell and Kepler from Nvidia is the power limit. You should also adjust the power limit slider to maximum and set the temp to max too. The fan profile can be kept on automatic but it will get real noisy as the core gets hotter.

To be fair, you'll get about 10% extra from the card but that increase in fps may not even be noticeable to you. Overclocking is more of a hobby thing and you wont always reap benefits from doing it.

why would you even need to a titan x is already OP enough I can't think of a title that would require a overclocked titan x

Flash a rom with say 1.22v will secure some extra MHz, plus increased power limits to stabilize overclock.

The Witcher 3?

Especially above 1080p I could see that being useful.

Before doing any overclocking on Titan X I would increase the temperature limit to maximum and the power limit to maximum, then keep increasing gpu clock in steps of 25 MHz until you get instability in games, then back down some, to have some safety margin for hotter weather etc.

Now do the same with memory, should be around 2000 MHz.

Some info that explains why you want to increase temp and power limit http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_Titan_X/32.html

Thanks, I appreciate it. I usually get stability in some games, but then I would get crashes in others. I have temp limit max as well as power limit. Any ideas on what a great power supply would be to achieve a great OC? I have a 700w at the moment..

It's not your PSU. Just dial down the OC until all games are stable and then another 25 MHz.
