Hi

I have a sapphire X800 XL and I´d like to squeeze some more out of it. But.. it overclocks so crappy stock is 400/490 and it only gets to ~ 440/535 I have decent watercooling on it (on both mem and core) core never goes past 40 C ... Does anyone know something to do ?

X800 XL uses R430 core which is bad :-( You want get more than 40 MHz OC. The only way is to make the Vmod.

I think your OC is good for X800XL.

I have GeCube X 800 XL and it OC waaaay.....below your level for the core. :banghead:
I could only managed to get 415 for core and 520 on the core with stock cooling. The max temps during scanning the max core and memory was 66 before artifacts appeared. It could be caused by my system spec, though. So...I OC it just to run on 400/500 instead of 390/499.

Thats exactly what I said, you wolud not get more than 430 Mhz from your core. 390+40=430MHz max core. The only way is to make Vmod, then you can get up to 40 Mhz more.
Memory can be better overclocked(500-550 Mhz), but it has almost zero impact on performance.

A friend of mine has managed to overclock HIS X800XL 256 Mb ICEQ2 Turbo PCI-e to 500 for the clock from the same stock clock point and the mem to 500 with just a click of a button on HIS supplied overclocking tool. Both core and mem could be boost higher if other peripherals support it. In addition, HIS also place Artic Silencer cooler on its ICEQ2 product lines. So, I think there's gotta be something else prohibit us to OC above 430 for the core...

I still have no idea what the issue is.

The bad thing that prohibit us to OC above 440 MHz is that R480 is made on non low-k process. Other thing is voltage for core. And has your friend realy X800XL? 500 Mhz is impossible for R480 even with water cooling.

Maybe he did a volt mod but it was His X800XL ICEQ2 256 MB Turbo edition because we bought the card at the same time and same place. He just lucky because he saw HIS card first. :( However, I'm quiet satisfy with X800 XL with small OC as I only use 1280x960 resolution during gameplay (only play NBA Live 2006 and will be playing NFS Most Wanted regularly once the game arrive :D )and 1280 x 1024 when I'm doing 3D modeling/rendering in Lightwave 8. :)

Does anyone know if the x800xl has lower core voltage than other x800??? and if it´s more sensitive to voltage (gpu) when its made on non low-k... that peta01 just thought me. And aint the chip R430 in x800xl ? At least I think so...

500 on an R480? Lol, not only is that possible, but it is below the default speeds on most video cards having an R480 chip (most R480 chips go in X850 series cards, which all have default gpu clocks above 500).

Did you mean to say R430?

I am sorry. Ofcourse I did mean R430, because we are talking about X800XL ;) Just a little error.

Yes X800XL has R430 core, you can look above. I just made a little error in that reply.
About the core voltages, I think they are the same at most of X800's 1.4 V, correct me if I'm wrong.
