I wouldn't buy a gigabyte either. Stick with what's good.

why not Gigabyte? They are good in all the reviews and they are made by some brand (don't remember what one) that is a good manufacture.

Thanks for the suggestions guys/gals but i don't think i'm ready for a whole new computer, i just wanted to fix the issue of overheating but i am pretty sure that i would be getting a new video card near november but i was also planning to get a macbook for a laptop.

Because it's easier to stick with quality products than to chance it with products that may not be as good.

@A4MA, run a stress program like Orthos and watch temps with Everest, see what you get.

That can be from unstable power, overheating, dieing RAM or CPU mobo leaking caps overheating MOSFETS.If you overclock or tighten the timings than that can also cause that. There are many things that can cause that.

Start with the new PSU, if you're getting all these errors so quickly in orthos, you could be heading for troubles. What are your temps like when Orthos has been loaded for 3 minutes?

Have you ran Memtest to verify your memory is stable?
Have you verified that at the moment all your options are default in BIOS (unless required to be changed to run PC for stock ratings like DDR 2 voltage/timings and so on)?
I think you should figure your issue with orthos out before replacing the vid card, in Everest how much do your voltages change and by how much? What's the average hi and low ratings you notice within a few seconds? What about while running Orthos, do any of them drop substancially?

Also AM4 you should fill out your System Specs (in UserCP). :toast:

I would say you need a new PSU.That sounds like a cheap off brand. Get something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817189005 if you AREN'T going to get a 8800GTS if you are going to get a 8800GTS than this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703005

As for this power supply, i find it a tad out of my price range because i am saving up for a laptop which i need after this year of school ends which is around June of 2008.

my cpu temp goes from 47 to 65 when using orthos and around 60-65 is when the errors occurs and i noticed that my hard drives temps have jumped from 38 to around 39-40. how long does memtests usually run for because i'm afraid the computer might restart while it is testing.

i just did the memtest for a hour for about 8 tests and received 13,361 errors, i'm starting to think i got some bad ram. i have thought about buying ram in the past weeks and chose this.

I also think you got bad RAM but also the PSU can cause that.I think you need to get a good PSU and RAM.
