Well if you aren't planning on keeping 2 in there, you can just have it hanging from cords until your done, it won't hurt anything if its not long term. Other than that, good luck if you are heart set on fitting it in.

got a PS/2 adapter...keyboard works now, i booted from CD, starts loading windows files, BAM...took out RAM one at a time, not that, not sound card either. im going to dismantle the entire thing and try different sata cables, different ports, etc and now im using anti static gloves.

it still turns off as soon as i start loading windows, it doesnt matter how long its turned on, its just when i load vista.

any other idea's as to how to fix this would be appreciated.

You might have to do a fresh install after you get those files off. It would seem that's the only option. I assume you meant it was booting from CD as in attempting to repair Windows?

No, storing it in a ziploc bag wouldn't cause a static issue. At least not one I've ever seen. I think its going to be a waiting game until you get your new hard drive (if you still are going to). Once you get that you can do a fresh install and recover your files. By all means try every other method in the book (unfortunately I have no more) but my bet still lies on the old OS, and booting off the CD wasn't enough to help (didn't replace the drivers in conflict).

Sorry for the double post, but I've had my drives in zip-loc bags without issue. If what you say is completely true, then I definately will stop. However I've had no issues as of yet. So you may still be good Braveheart.

From what I can tell he wasn't trying a format and reinstall, but only to get onto desktop. Brave do you have an extra HDD, extra comp or anything of the like?

Do you have your memeory timings and voltage set correctly in your bios some boards are picky about this, I've seen it happen lots the pc will restart and no bsod changing the timings and voltage fixed this right away.

its possible...but idk if i want to...i mean i just got the darn thing running, i don't feel like sitting around for month waiting for my RMA to process and than wait for the board to get here. plus im not even sure if it was a bad ram slot...i was almost certain it was but I'll test it later.

:eek:man this is fast, horrible video though...need GTX 295!
