The problem: When im using the pc and just surfing, it starts to show these....pixelated lines before the pc stops and then restarts. Well, it tries, but then it proceeds to behave like it shows on the video i have uploaded:

It seems to not tolerate too much flash-action (flash games, watching streams etc), as it stops and resumes to the problem in the video.

How do i fix this without buying a whole new pc??

Yes, the pc is OLD (bought it in 2010), but it's been running very good until now. I got my OS installed on an IDE drive too. Been working like a charm. I have also re-installed windows 7 32-bit with no problems, but that didnt solve this. I have also replaced the IDE drive with a newer IDE drive. No success. I have tried to clean the different parts with air dust spray, no success.

Is it the graphics card doing this, perhaps? That is the only thing i havent replaced yet, since the pc is so old.

Another thing might be that the cooling paste is too dry? I havent replaced the cooling paste just yet.. maybe i should try that, or?

Also, this is how my login screen looks like in safe mode, whenever i manage to get that far: http://postimg.org/image/4wngwgp17/

I am in the process of getting a new one, but for now, i really need this pc as that is all i got. No laptop or pads.

Kindly help me, if you know a solution to this, thank you.

Gpu related could be faulty or need to clean the contacts
Service the Pc and clean all contact points on gpu and ram with an eraser/rubber works like a charm

Ah, havent cleaned the ram contacts tho..

Like, how do i clean the contact points? With air spraying into them or just use that eraser? :)

Thanks for a good suggestion. Will try that first.

Sorry, but i dont know the specs in my head, and as you can see, the pc won't start properly for me to check. Sorry about that.

Looks like bad vRAM on your GPU and if that's the case there's likely nothing you can do but changing the GPU

The TIM (thermal interface material) or what you are calling "cooling paste" does not go bad just because it might have dried out. Even if now dry, the solid materials (the main components for efficient heat transfer) left behind are still filling the microscopic pits and valleys in the mating surfaces - meaning they are still keeping insulating air out. So unless your temps are too high, or you knocked loose the heatsink, TIM does not need to be replaced just because it is a few years old, or might have dried.

RAM would not be causing your problem either. What you are seeing is typically due to failing graphics - assuming the interior is clean of heat trapping dust.

Some more info like System Specs would prove helpful.

A quick search of BSOD code 000116 turns up some graphics card issues so that looks like it may be your issue, which lines up with what you're seeing with all the funky lines and such. Do you have onboard video you can plug into and test?

ive had seen this a couple times and it has been a few things >>> Poorly seated gfx card, bad gfx card , and the thermal paste on gpu die leaks down onto resistors next to die. from factory they put to much thermal paste sometimes , what I would do is then remove the heatsink clean paste with alcohol and q-tips or w/e u have available to clean with cotton reg shirt w/e and replace thermal paste and reinstall heatsink just a small amount of past not much is needed it will spread out from the preasure of the heatsink or u can use a card to level it across urself but remember not to much paste as it will leak over the edge again and can have the same problem .

to clean the pins juts put some alcohol on a rag and whipe them and inspect or any build up of dirt/dust

if your still having this problem then mostlikly the gfx card is no good

no sense continuing this non-sense people artifacts in the bios = DEAD GPU,Period no exceptions
replace the gpu

^^^^^^ This, if you have built in graphics, connect the monitor to that port and remove the graphics card, the lines should go away.
If you don't have a discrete GPU then you have bigger issues.

Can possible be fix by baking gpu (temporarily solution )

mine gpu had vga memory errors and green dots and lines after pc crashed / hanged in game after restart
Baked
not memory errors after
lasted about 3 months had to bake again been running since

Test the vga ram with Video memory stress test , occt stress test

Possible of course, just resurrected a dead GTX 570 that didn't display anything!

pardon for my very slow reply. . .

i can only say thanks a lot that techpowerup exists!

once again, you have aided me in my worries and problems when it comes to non-working pc! hands down to all of you helpers.

it's been running smooth ever since you came up with this rather simple suggestion. what's even more amazing is that i can now turn my fan-power down so it's not being as noisy as it used to be!

and thanks to all of you who made sure that this is all a gpu-problem and not something...worse.

i know that i should invest in a new pc asap, but i was wondering... shouldn't i go for an OLD HD4800-series card (or something similar) that fits my setup? like, i see that those are going for like $10-20 here where i live. like new too. wouldn't that help me a great deal until i get myself a new pc? any thoughts on that? i would love to have this pc as my backup pc in the future as well..

ONE more question.... is it possible that adobe flash can cause the gpu to overload and result to a BS? because, im trying to play some browser-based flash games, but some games make the pc go super laggy straight away and i'll have to wait several minutes before i can close the browser. sometimes it just blackscreens out and i have to restart the pc manually. just wondering...

thanks a lot again for the help, you all!

EDIT: forgot to add my specs (from what i could find):
- amd phenom II x3 720
- gigabyte ga-ma790x
- ati radeon hd4800
- win7 32-bit
...and that's it. i don't know the rest . sorry
