PC stores in St. Louis

Any recommendations on reputable vendors in the St. Louis area. Girlfriend needs a new PC, looking most likely for a prebuilt system. Due to work we're currently separated by some 1600 miles, so I'm limited in what I can do.

I'd buy a refurbished laptop or pc from Newegg or Amazon, and just have it shipped to her house. If it's just for communication and not for gaming you should be able to pick up something from $200 to $300. :toast:

+1. Is laptop a option or is PC a must? What's the budget?

Most likely a desktop. Budget should be kept under $1000. Just need the tower. She'll be gaming on it. Prefer something local just in case of any hardware issues. The box will have to be packed up and hauled to a fedex/UPS depot for a return. That's a ~2 hour drive so just may as well head direct to the retailer it was purchased at.

If you are referring to St. Louis, MO, I would highly recommend Microcenter in the Brentwood Promenade for either having something built or getting a prebuilt system.

I used to work there and know just about everyone who works in there. Doesn't get much better than that really for the area.

We have some Best Buys around but nothing like Microcenter.

They can build the PC there and provide support for it as well.

Rest is either heavily overpriced or under spec'd. I am not from the US and have no idea how Microcenter works but and if their local offer differs but the website didnt have anything else pre-build that is considered ok for gaming and it;s under $1000

What I would possibly recommend,

Get a PowerSpec such as the one below, and then get a Power Supply and Select a Video card.

It is about $50-$100 more. With the PowerSpec PCs, any upgrades you buy at the time of purchase they will install for free. They used to do it when I was there about a year ago. This way you get a better than generic PSU that the prebuilt PCs usually come with and a better video card along with a free game(s).

The PowerSpecs are house brand PCs that don't have all the frills and bloat that the brand names come with. They have both AMD and Intel flavors. They should also still come with the Windows/Drivers discs in the box. None of that making 4-6 DVDs for recovery or using a 16-32GB Flash Drive. They are very basic and easy to work on. Always ATX standard without any proprietary stuff.

Thanks. A basic prebuilt with a couple mods is pretty much what I'm looking for. Nothing to fancy or finicky. I'm flying in for a couple days next week and will check them out. I just don't have the time to build one myself.

If she's gaming at 1080p or below then I would say pick her out a nice i5 for around $600-$800 and put this card in for her and you keep the free Witcher 3 game unless she wants it.

Nvidia recommends a 400 watt PSU for it or if it has a 300 watt PSU then maybe get her a GTX 750 Ti.

Just a thought.

Adding a gpu and psu to that pc it's gonna be at least another $200 ending at the same price or more expensive than The Asus I linked
