So my buddy bought a couple 7950's to plop on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 board with a FX-8320. I'm wondering if an audio card can be added in on that board and still have the GPUs be able to run fine. I'm not sure on how AMD's lanes work so I'm just kinda.. yeah.. lost on that one.

Sweet board and I had mine in a crossfire config for awhile and actually thinking of adding another 290x to the mix.

Yeah I picked the board out for him. Since he wanted a HUGE case (Rosewill Blackhawk) and GPU horsepower without breaking his bank, we went with 7950 xfire. He's bumping his CPU from the 6300 to the 8320.

The 790FX, 890FX, and 990FX all have enough PCI-E lanes to drive 8x/8x/8x/8x @ PCI-E 2.0 and the SB offers a handful of 1x slots if the board has them. Either way, 7950s won't suffer with only 8 lanes. No matter what configuration you put it in, it should be fine. These chipsets make for great makeshift servers because of all the PCI-E slots and the ECC support offered by AMD CPUs. Just throwing that out there.

AMD has plenty on the pcie lanes.
990fx chipset is good for that.
890 chipset,too.
Where the framerates will suffer is from the IPC of the CPU..
FX chip can't even push 1 GPU to the max..let alone 2.
I'm interested to see how that works out..
I'd bet you lose 0 fps from adding a soundcard, though.

It was completely off topic. The lower half of this post is off topic as well. Literally, this post has nothing to do with anything performance related other than the OP wanting to know if there are enough PCI-E lanes to fulfill the needs of the GPUs and a sound card.
