I'm looking at getting a new sound card, preferably an PCIE one. But, I don't have an available x1 slot, can a sound card work in an x 16 slot?

though what slot will you be putting it in? if you put it in the x4 electrical slot on your mobo is probably going to be the best option. Cause on p55 there is only 16 lanes from the CPU and a x4 electrical x16 physical slot for the southbridge. If you put it in the other slot that is fed from the CPU you will be wasting 7 lanes that could feed your 5970
