Phenom II X2 vs. Athlon X3 O/C game benches + 4830 1GB X-fire/4850 1GB X-fire review

I have been trying to decide which CPU I should keep either a PIIx2 550BE or Athlonx3 425 for my back-up system. So I ran a bunch of game benchmarks to help me decide. I am leaning towards the Athlon based on the results. I like the idea of an extra core over the cache cause I think more games are going to be using more cores. The test system is rig 2 in my system spec and the resolution is 2048x1152. Each benchmark is at its max with 4xAA.

I also threw in benchmarks from rig 1 in my system spec as well.

What do you think?

I take it the PII doesn't unlock? in that case the Athlon II x3 looks the better cpu by those results so its a no brainer.

Ya, I've tried to unlock both CPU's on 2 different boards and many different bios's without luck.

I'd take whichever is cheaper...

I already have them. I want to sell one.

older games won't even use more than 2 threads and respond more positively to the extra cache and speed, whereas newer games will use that third core/thread and run better on the athlon

Considering that the Athlon II X3 won the majority of the benchmarks (the ones measured in frames per second) its the better candidate. Also considering that the Phenom II X2 is clocked 500MHz higher yet its unable to win decisively signals that the Athlon II X3 is the CPU to keep.
