Not really as this doesn't mean they'll instantly support PhysX now. But it does mean AMD is up to something with physics. The question is just how and to what extent.

Wow. Nice. But I don't think this is going to be too dramatic for NV or AMD. But you never know.

Although this may be a win for the AMD. It isn't a lost for nVidia.

Whatever the developer did for nVIdia remains the intellectual property of nVidia.
ATI may start gettings HW physics in the future, but it would have to be a new API written from the ground up.

Did anyone actually check the source? It is that same kitguru site that posted the BS about nVidia droping the GTX470 and removing CUDA entirely from the GTX465, it was pretty much agreed by everyone that the stie just posts total BS to generate traffic. I'm guessing this news has about the same amount of truth to it.

You're right, that site's a bit dodgy. To any mod, feel free to close this thread. :)

Of course it won't be a loss. Like they've done anything innovative since the acquisition. Only thing they did was to port it to CUDA. And that's it. Since then, it's been stagnating on the same point.

All web links point to the kitguru article unfortunatley. Let's leave the thread open and see what boils up out of the deep, dark underbelly of the interwebz in the next couple of days.

This is posted at the end of the KitGuru article ... lol

If true, it might be a good thing - make the two more competitive.

I used to love Nvidia a few years back (early 2000's).. wouldn't touch AMD/ATI with a 10 foot pole. But a few years ago I got a second hand desktop that had an ATI card. It worked really well. On the game boards I noticed a lot of people started having driver problems with Nvidia drivers.

Now I have gone through 2 more ATI cards in my desktop and loved them. ( they still do work- just upgraded) They always worked great with whatever I was trying to play. So when I got my Lappy and it had AMD/ATI I wasn't worried. It plays almost anything I throw at it with a few exceptions of the latest games from last year and this year.

It seems ATI has been really solid since the AMD merger. If they get PhysX like technology that would rock.

I know they will have to build the new system from scratch, but what better person to do that than the founder of the PhysX project.. it should be easy for him cus he's probably the one guy on the planet who understands it the best.

this is a little off topic and i think its great amd got a person that will add t there team, but WHo the hell cares about physx its a gimick and has been proven to hurt your framerates and all of 3 games support it, lol

what i am curious about is, Is he going to create a proper physics model based around OpenCl and DirectCompute, which would render his invention dead.

Well in the first place, he didnt invent it. He might just have marketted it or giving PR stuff, managing etc, but from the looks of it, did not single handedly made the architechture from the ground up.

i doubt he'd be allowed to disclose anything to ati, even if he had left them, as they would more than likely sue him and or ati

so it's a meh moment from me

    Check this out mate

    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169645&pid=1063119&st=0&#entry1063119

The Physx founder leaving Nvidia to join AMD is for real. A mod has replied in that forum without stating that the Physx found leaving is false. So that means, this is real.

I'm not saying it isn't real, I'm just saying I won't believe anything posted on that site until it is confirmed someplace else.

The press release is right on AMD's site, so there is no doubt this is real.

As reported in the news, Manju Hegde will be heading up the AMD Fusion Experience Program.
