So the 970 and 980 released today. After reading some reviews I've decided to buy the 970 as it outperforms my GTX 780 OC at a fraction of the cost. Going to return my 780 in the next couple of days.

Picked up the EVGA GTX 970 super clocked

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
So then how are you going to return it? And why would you return a perfectly working card? Seems unethical, no?

The GTX 970 has more performance than the GTX 780 for exactly half the price I paid 14 months ago. We can all thank AMD for that(the lower prices).

It is unethical. Do you believe that today's young people have any ethics besides what they alone decide?

I think he is mixed up and talking about me. I'm returning a week old GTX 780.

I bought the same GTX 970 that is done in this review: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_970_SC_ACX_Cooler/1.html

It out performs the GTX 780 in every test and it only costs: $339.94 plus tax; while my GTX 780 cost: $489.99 plus tax. IMO performance and value make the return more than worth it.

I agree with you completely. The two trolls have no idea what they're talking about.

The only way id replace mine is with another Asus DirectCUII. Which is out of stock. :-\

I bought my GTX 780 at Fry's Electronics which offer a 30 day return for ANY reason on all purchases. My return reason: I found a better deal on a better performing card.

Id much rather have a 980. But Im having a hard time justifying it even though it's a +30% increase in what I have now from what I have read.

I think this is the card to get for my fiance', who has a 660 Ti. Total upgrade and then some! As for me, even though it beats the 780, I'm going to keep my 780 because I am happy with it's performance in everything I play.

LOL, troll THIS... :p

Being serious, Whitenoise is who I mixed up with the OP. Sorry about that. But hey, if you can return it, go for it. 30 day any reason I have no issues. If you have to lie to return it, that is where I take exception to it...it costs us all money when you are slim shady and return things for no reason (assuming it is not against policy)

Its not a 30% difference between the 780 and 980... check out the dozens of reviews on the card. Or one from here (a bit over 20%): http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980/26.html

I did consider the 980 but I had to look at it from a cost perspective. I paid over $500 for my 780 and I'm happy with it though I wasn't too stoked at spending over $500 because I usually spend around $400 on my cards. But I figured what the hell. Once I saw the reviews roll in on the 970 and saw the price this morning at newegg I actually thought...hell here is the price I wanted to spend int he first place and it out performs the 780 and even the 780ti in some benches. It's a non issue for me at this point. I tossed around the idea of buying the 980 but then I'd be spending even more than I originally wanted. That didn't make as much sense to me.

Yeah that will be a great upgrade for the fiance. A GTX 780 is more than enough for 1080p and most games even on 1440p. If I had a 780 I would just wait until big Maxwell and upgrade the monitor to 1440p or 4K also.

I'm trying to decide if I want to get a 980 or get a 970 and then another 970 down the road. I'm somewhat leaning towards the 980 since in most bench'd games it achieves over 60 fps at 1440p.

Well I could certainly understand keeping the 780 for sure. More so if you would have to sell it because you would not make enough money off it to justify the performance increase on the 970 but considering I get a full refund and in turn will save $153.15 I cannot pass this up.

Well, if you have no problem with going SLI then you could pick up a EVGA GTX 970 SC for $330 right now and add a second one later on down the road and it would be $110 more than a reference GTX 980 but a lot more performance. Maybe it's overkill for 1440p though.

Newegg India's prices are f*ckin insane. The EVGA one is priced @ 329.99 USD. The 760 costs about that much over here. I don't know about shipping costs though. And yeah, the Strix is out of stock.

I joined to ask you a question. Did yours come with a backplate like we are being told? Is the logo on the top side of the card backlit?
